Knowing Venezuelan traditional-popular music. Today's song: "The mists of the sea"

in #dsound6 years ago

The song that we are going to reference today in this musical area is entitled "Las brumas del mar” (The mists of the sea) and was recorded in 1969, 49 years ago. It is a Venezuelan waltz that at that time was unknown to the author of the music and with the passing of the years, finally it was possible to know. The lyrics of this song are by Francisco Carreño Delgado and the music of Balbino García. The original version of that waltz was performed by the Venezuelan tenor Jesús Sevillano after separating from the famous "Quinteto Contrapunto". The song is part of the Musical Album entitled "Sing Jesus Sevillano" which gave beginning to the solo career of this excellent Venezuelan singer.

Sevillano himself says that, after thinking about it carefully, he decided to make a Musical Work exclusively dedicated to Venezuelan popular music. The album comes at a time when our Venezuelan popular music was going through a broadcast crisis because what was heard on the radio stations was music completely foreign to ours. To say of Jesus Sevillano himself, "... I also want to make this contribution modestly at moments in which our genuine folk and folk music is relegated, distorted and distorted, with an alarming investment of values as a result of foreign influences". That is why this album is a musical jewel with an invaluable heritage value because it arises at a juncture of our musical values, in processes of change and transformation so it immediately became a musical reference to take into account.

This first work of Jesus Sevillano counted with the participation of three excellent musicians also worried about what was happening with our popular Venezuelan music: Juan Carlos Núñez al Piano, in the Arrangements and in the Musical Direction; Rómulo García in Cuatro and Telesforo Naranjo in Contrabass.

In all the music of this album we can hear new textures supported in a solid musical accompaniment by the piano, new elements are also introduced in the accompaniment of the Double Bass with the inclusion of the bow in long notes that sustain long-slow passages, such is the case of "The mists of the sea". Thanks to these novel elements that emerged in this Musical Album a new spirit was breathed into the spirit of our popular musicians who sought to resignify our music from the academic without stripping it of its national identity elements. I can say with all property that from this first album of Jesús Sevillano our popular Venezuelan music changed.

With this, I hope to contribute to reaffirm the value of our musical expressions, resignify the creative potential of our popular cultores and interpreters and, thus, demonstrate the immense cultural heritage of our Venezuelan people.

The mists of the sea

So the mists of the sea
There are breasts where love is born,
There are beings that are born and grow
And soon they die dying of love. (Bis)

When suddenly I thought I owned
Your platonic love, ungrateful woman,
You gave another of your love the calm
Leaving a cruel wound in my soul. (Bis)

When I think that you do not love me,
You do not even remember me,
My eyes are clouded with tears
Loving you so much, I sigh for you. (Bis)

When suddenly I thought I owned
Your platonic love, ungrateful woman,
You gave another of your love the calm
Leaving a cruel wound in my soul. (Bis)

There is my girlfriend so white and so white
Like the mists of the sea
She likes to sing and sing to her
The sublime valse the mists of the sea. (Bis)

When suddenly I thought I owned
Your platonic love, ungrateful woman,
You gave another of your love the calm
Leaving a cruel wound in my soul. (Bis)
