Knowing Venezuelan traditional-popular music. Today's song: "Oriental Pole"

in #dsound6 years ago

The federal entity framed within the federal territory of Sucre State in Venezuela, is the result of a high syncretism and a dynamic cultural diversity. This piece of land in the east of the country shows us, at present, an interesting and significant musical universe that enriches its collective feeling and its daily dynamics. It is in this socio-historical-cultural evolution where we find the indigenous, European and African musical contributions that have merged to offer us that beautiful musical range that this federal entity called Sucre State possesses.

Despite the strong globalizing process of culture, the devaluation and the loss that is experienced today of some of the musical expressions in Venezuela, in Sucre the musical tradition is maintained, through a process of resistance, because it feeds on the constant inventiveness and the deep popular roots of its cultores.

With this brief introduction, we present today's song titled, "Oriental Pole". It is a song that has the shape of an Oriental-Venezuelan Pole and is one of the musical expressions that were brought to Venezuela via overseas, specifically from Spain. This musical typology is rooted in a type of Spanish song whose music has a direct relationship with a very popular song in the Spain of the XV and XVI centuries.

Today's song is conceived in such a way that it tries to approximate the melodic reminiscence of Spain at that time (15th and 16th centuries) and, at the same time, stamps the personal stamp of the Venezuela of the eastern coastal region in a way particular and characteristic. In this Eastern Pole, there is evidence, then, of a hybrids and musical mestization product of the European colonization to which our peoples were subjected. On the one hand, the melody is of Spanish origin, on the other hand, the instrumental use of Cuatro, Mandolin and Guitar demonstrate the creolization of music by the use of completely new musical codes and textures by our native-native musicians also with the use of maracas.

This "Oriental Pole" is a traditional-popular music with a fixed rhythmic-harmonic pattern. Its author, Víctor López is a musician and singer-songwriter from the town of Guaca, Municipio Bermúdez, composer and performer of different musical genres of this region, from Polo, Malagueña, Merengue, Gaita, Punto, among others, as well as creator and teacher of oriental comparsas. Master of Popular Culture as well as Segundo Campos, who is a pillar in the execution and teaching of the Mandolin. Accompanied by Augusto Villarroel, teacher of generations in the execution of the Guitar, Julio Quijada in the Maracas and Roger Cabrera in the Bajo. These talented Venezuelan musicians meet to sing the experiences, and the daily life of the oriental being.

This collection is part of the Discographic Work entitled Sucre, Music and Tradition (2002), which was conducted under the patronage of Fundapatrimoniosucre, with the support of the National Council of Culture (CONAC) and the Government of Sucre State, all State institutions Venezuelan. The work was musicalized, supervised and produced by this server who writes these lines (Estelio Padilla). All this Musical Production represents an enormous effort on the part of each one of us who are committed to promote and spread our Venezuelan culture. This is how, on this occasion, a part of the collection that brings together the emblematic musical instruments and genres of our tradition is shown, seeking to reaffirm the value of our musical expressions and their popular cultores, thus demonstrating the immense creative potential of the people of the State Sucre.

Eastern pole

From north to north
I come mother of mine
And I have nothing
What can you offer (bis)

Only one flower
Yellow of the road
To decorate
Your hair bench (bis)

Bye Bye
Star of the night
Said a soldier
At the foot of a window (bis)

Do not Cry more
My nigger of my life
What if God wants
I'll be back tomorrow (bis)

Last night I kissed your lips
Last night I kissed your lips
Color red pitiguey (bis)

Your eyes sky color
And your yellow hair araguaney (bis)
