"Mirándonos" - A song a story / Una canción una historia / Ein Lied eine Geschichte

in #dsound5 years ago (edited)

I got to be manager of the group Desorden Público at a very difficult time. In the year 2002 there was a complex political situation in Venezuela that included a coup d'état, which in the end was reversed, a large number of political mobilizations and a strike that included sabotage to the oil industry. All this accompanied by a strong political exacerbation and much radicalism.

In that historical moment I was asked to assume the responsibility of puting on the table a group that, although it had a very important trajectory, at that time had lowered its popularity a little, due to a "bad business" they had done when signing contract with a label that turned out to be a scam.

Of course, the political landscape described above was not the most conducive to making a great promotional campaign. However, I took on the challenge and the group was willing to make the maximum effort to get ahead. So we started knocking on the doors of media, companies and event organizers, I bought the domain that still identifies the group, www.desordenpublico.net, to start giving web presence to the group and we thought about the need to record a single for returning to the radio promotion.

It is important to remember that this group always maintained a critical political stance before the governments of the day, something that became a characteristic of the band.

Horacio Blanco, who is the leading voice of the band and the composer of most of the songs, showed me several songs that could be used as a single and that was going to become our way of activating the website, because the idea was that it would only be distributed through that site. I gave my opinion on several of them, among which my favorite was Cristo Navaja (which they recorded much later).

One day Horacio tells me, that's it, the song is going to be this one! And he shows me a song with a high political content, "Mirándonos" (Looking at us self). Of course, my reaction was negative, how are we going to come up with a political issue at a time of such conflict?

But the group's arguments, as to what was the essence of the band and the approach of the song that called for union, against the war, convinced me.

The group also thought about the possibility of recording the song with a guest and different alternatives were considered. But the most interesting and that was the one that was agreed upon was that of Pablo Dagnino.

Pablo was the vocalist of one of the most emblematic rock bands in the country in the 80s, Sentimiento Muerto. For some reason between both bands it was perceived as a certain rivalry, something that was not true, but it is also true that there was no significant relationship. That in itself already made it attractive, as it complemented that call to union.

Finally the song was recorded, with the participation of Dagnino and the song was placed on the website to be downloaded, we made a single and went to the radio stations. The issue achieved its objective and returned Desorden Público to the fore.

As a curious anecdote I leave this story. One of the most important stations of that time, used to put together playlists that played for a couple of days. The song was placed on one of those lists. The station decided to join a business strike that began in December of that year and lasted a few months. During all that time the list was played daily and "Mirándonos" sounding several times a day, which gave a much greater projection to the track.

A intentar cómo pescarlo

Extranejero, negro o blanco
Pero nunca tú crees tener (yo no)
nada que ver con lo malo

Golpes de pechos
Golpes de estado
Golpes muy bajos televisados
Patas pa' arriba
Patas pa' abajo
Todos estamos equivocados

Qué errado ser corsarios
de nuestros propio barco
Frente a un espejo estás

Mirando de lejos el espejo
Mirándolo
Mirando el espejo de lejos
Mirándonos

Mirándonos (Live)
