Artakush Talks Recycling | Home Work-Out

in #dtube6 years ago

Sunday is a usual day for us to clean up the house properly, and do most of the errands, before starting a new week.

We, me and my wife, are recycling, and while I was taking out the garbage, I saw quite few people using all different containers for their waste. Funny enough, the containers were full, and that is one of the problems we encounter here as people who recycle. There is not enough specific containers for different waste.

What is you experience with recycling? Are you recycling?

I have seen families having a small compost bucket at their homes, even if they live in a small apartment, having the bucket in the balcony, usually these families has plants or small spices growing in their home, to make use of the compost.

Do you have a compost? Have you ever thought to use compost? How does that help you around the house, or recycling food waste?

Some places here in the States make it very easy to recycle. The City will give you a bin for recycling, and a bin for trash. California is very good at it. Here in Arizona they are pretty good about it too. I remember growing up in California we could collect newspapers and soda cans and bottles plastic and glass, and take them down to the recycling center, it was a fun way to earn a little bit extra money.

True, here you can recycle glass and plastic bottles at supermarkets, but only the ones bought in that brand supermarket, but for everything else, there are different containers, paper, white a,d dark glasses apart, and plastic, but they are only a kilometer away, and usually over flown, since there is only few of them in such big and populated neighborhood.

Have you ever had a compost bucket though?

So growing up we had a big backyard, and had a huge compost, it was nice. My dad was kind of in charge of it, but if we ever need worms for fishing, we knew where to find them, in the compost. Here in AZ I started a compost bucket, but I didn't properly care for it, and it dried out. which happens easily here in the Desert, with temps reaching 120 F in the summer. The high today was 107! lol

We also did a large compost pile and it was a really cool experience. We jump started the process by placing a piece of raw meat in the middle and included manure. we used a piece of wire fencing that we rounded and tied like a cylinder. It started out about 5 feet tall and 5 feet in diameter. The temp got up to 160 degrees F and made beautiful rich compost in less than 3 weeks.

oh wow that is pretty awesome! :)

@mrchef111 It was pretty cool to see it transform so quickly. I wish we would have made more, but my FIL had a stroke (he's fine now) and we ended up doing a last minute trip to California for 3 weeks. It just totally disrupted our gardening groove!

Oh so sorry to hear that, but glad he is fine. Yeah compost is incredible stuff! So good for the garden too. What kinds of things do you grow? :) Have you ever done a video tour of your garden, fruit trees? If not might be a fun video to do. haha

@mrchef111 I grow lots and lots of weeds!! 😆Seriously though, we tried to grow tomatoes, beans, squash, brussel sprouts, cabbage, lettuce and more, but leaving for 3 weeks just was too much time away. The weeds grew too fast, blocking the drip system from reaching the plants that needed the water. I took tons of footage of the planting and the compost building, but have yet to produce it. Which reminds me... Where is that footage?!? Lol!
