Setting up my soilless potato patch, also known as the Ruth Stout method
Digging in the dirt for root vegetables can be alot of work and many times the underground potatoes can get damaged when trying to remove them using D-forks and other tools. I came across a video that showed how to grow food in hay, and im giving it a try with some red potatoes.
The Ruth Stout method is where you use old discarded hay to use as a media for the roots to grow in. Since I started this project, I learned others have tried this. Such as @goat-girlz and
@squareonefarms
I exposed some spuds to light, let them form eyes and them cut them up into small pieces to callus over and then were placed in the ground.
I am quite excited to see the results, this video was made about a month ago. And since then the red potatoes have emerged from the hay.

This is a pretty good way to grow potatoes, they're easier to harvest for sure!
It is best to use old half broken down hay or straw for this instead of fresh hay or straw.
I wish that I had some land to grow vegetables. The is a really great DIY on growing potatoes. Potatoes are my favorite type food and they are very healthy!
