The song talks about the famous Argentine poet and sportswoman, Alfonsina Storni, who committed suicide in Mar de Plata on October 15, 1938. There are two versions about her death, the most supported is where she tells herself that launched into the sea jumping from a breakwater, and the other version, a bit more romantic and artistic account that went into the sea little by little to disappear, and precisely this song is one of the few writings that support this version, although the author did not know Alfonsina.
The first version that the world heard of this song takes us to the album "Mujeres Argentinas" of 1969 by the interpreter Mercedes Sosa. Later it has been visited and arranged by diverse artists from all over the world and of all genres, from Plácido Domingo, to Soledad Bravo.

La canción habla de la famosa poetisa y deportista argentina, Alfonsina Storni, quien se suicidó en Mar de Plata el 15 de Octubre de 1938. Existen dos versiones sobre su muerte, la más apoyada es donde se cuenta que se lanzó al mar saltando de una escollera, y la otra versión, un poco más romántica y artística cuenta que se internó poco a poco en el mar hasta desaparecer, y precisamente esta canción es una de los pocos escritos que apoyan esta versión, aunque el autor no conoció a Alfonsina.
La primera versión que el mundo escuchó de esta canción nos lleva al album "Mujeres Argentinas" de 1.969 de la interprete Mercedes Sosa. Posteriormente ha sidovcantada y arreglada por diversos artistas de todo el mundo y de todos los géneros, desde Plácido Domingo, hasta Soledad Bravo.
