Curation trails are great if I'm the one getting the upvotes. lol Overall it seems like this site is a bit too automated.

I like curating manually more than through a curation trail.
In fact this takes more time but it makes just more sense.
Also if I vote with 5% each time, this person won't be really happy.
But if I vote sometimes with 50-100% I think that rejoices this person even more.

I usuall give 100% upvotes... Because why not. WHAT the fuck is a one-tenth of a like :D Half of the thumb maybe. maybe a whole... who knows. Got to measure the thumb ratio on the like symbol. Hopefully, someone will do that. :D

Yes, I've been thinking this over myself, and now after watching your vlog and reading @art.visuals comment, I have just unfollowed all my curation trails.
and in answer to one of your questions; yes, I do sometimes upvote a higher % to a comment, than to the original post, if i like what's gone into it :)

I've been here since December 2017 and have never once used a curation trail...Mainly, because I was completely ignorant to what it was LOL
As for support...You will be waiting a long long long long time on the blockchain expecting 100% upvotes from sizeable accounts. A lot of them talk about how to improve Steem and what everyone should do to to attract 'minnows' to the platform but rarely upvote content.
Manual is the way to go man! As far as I've seen, nothing beats engagement and a thoughtful upvote that supports the people you follow!

I don't really mind the curation trails/autovotes and the community bots, they're generally done with the intention of making sure people aren't missed and trying to increase support. I don't like bidbots though XD
Then you have the people for whom the money is an added bonus and "true support" would be regular feedback/comments.
I do understand the feeling of things getting "too automated" that was expressed previously but this happens when your feed starts ballooning and seeing as filters are apparently either too hard or considered worthless (I say only because none of the interfaces I'm familiar with/use have implemented any that the user would find useful) you either have to keep on top of it as best you can or possibly consider who you're going to unfollow.
Also, upvotes are a lot easier than comments XD

Anyway I do everything manually which is why I'm so sporadic.
I always feel bad on who I unfollow though haha. Thanks for your insights, a sporadic comment is better than no comment.
Not like you're ever short on comments so you don't have to worry about that ;D

My fix to the upvoting, if you've already dribbled on the post via curation, is:
If you like it, then you'll comment on it.
Then I can give a proper upvote to their reply :)

What you said at about 3 minutes in is perhaps an even bigger issue: people upvoting other peoples comments without actually upvoting the video... Also, love the scarf btw :P
I don't get this. Sometimes a comment can be the biggest value.
How can a comment be of bigger value than the content it was written on? Without the content, the comment would not even be possible. Let's suppose that the content is very badly written/badly filmed, even then the comment is only possible because the content was published in the first place, thereby giving value to the creator as well as consumers. Even if the comment would be 'better' than the original content, the content is still more valuable because the comment could not exist without the content.

100% agree i'm actually doing a similar video soon about this topic... i prefer to go to people video's give a bigger upvote and leave a comment i feel like if there wasn't curation trails more people would watch peoples videos and would be more of a community. spot on :)

It is enough sometimes. But moving forward, it's only going to get more tough.
