Earthquakes!

Hi Friends,

You may or may not have heard that California has been experiencing some good sized earthquakes in the last week. There are a couple of faults have been on the move and there have been two large earthquakes, and thousands of small earthquakes recently.

The earthquakes have an epicenter near Ridgecrest, California, which is about 150 miles north of Los Angeles. Ridgecrest is fairly remote, but holds a large Naval Weapons Station base so it has a population of over 20,000.

With the earthquakes being 100+ miles away, we have felt a bit of shaking at my house, but nothing too bad. For the first big earthquake (6.9 magnitude at the epicenter), we were outside on the 4th of July holiday and the most noticeable thing was one of our parked cars shaking back and forth as if someone was jumping on it. For the second big earthquake (7.1 magnitude at epicenter), we were sitting in the living room and the walls were shaking and things were rattling a bit – the most noticeable thing was the hanging light fixtures which were swaying as if someone had pushed them.

Earthquakes can be scary, but I feel somewhat prepared. I have food, cash and extra gas around, not to mention some gold and silver I can get access to. I do not consider myself a doomsday prepper, but in the event of a major earthquake in Los Angeles with electricity, cell phone towers, and infrastructure decimated, I feel equipped enough to ride things out for a while, which I see as the main goal of being prepared in the event of a major earthquake.
