Germany to reach goal of 4 bln euros for intl climate financing by 2020 – budget draft (Clean Energy Wire)

  • According to a draft budget seen by Clean Energy Wire, the German government will reach (and even exceed) its target of doubling budget funds for international climate financing to EUR4bn annually by 2020, compared to 2014.

New rules make household appliances more sustainable (European Commission)

  • In an effort to address rising consumer complaints and to reduce Europe’s carbon footprint, the European Commission has adopted a new set of eco-design standards that will make household appliances easier to repair. The standards come into effect in 2021, and aim to make firms design longer-lasting appliances as they will have to supply spare parts for machines for up to 10 years.

Climate change could cause drought in wheat-growing areas (ScienceDaily)

  • According to a new study, up to 60% of current wheat-growing areas worldwide could see simultaneous, severe, and prolonged droughts by the end of the century if steps aren’t taken to mitigate climate change, putting future food production at risk.

Sustainable Solutions – Foodtech:

Food Industry Is Aligning with SDGs—but Not Taking Action (foodtank)

  • A new report from the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (BCFN) commends the food industry for becoming more aware of its role in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but calls for more concrete actions and effective reporting systems on progress.
