99 reasons why earthships are fuc!*ing awesome: Part #10 FINALE- Reasons 91-99

in #ecotrain5 years ago (edited)

DRUM ROLL!

This is the finishing line of the series, and it looks like I have actually managed to find 99 pretty amazing reasons why earthships are fuc!*ing awesome! You know it wasn’t that hard, and I didn’t have to do any Googling except for once just for fun.. Now when someone asks me what Biotecture is about I can reel out these reasons!

Now you can see why it is so hard to explain to people what Biotecture is and the very many good reasons to take up this approach. If you are considering building a home, I hope you can now agree that the reasons for building an Earthship are SO compelling, and nearly all of them can not be applied to even the best alternatives of eco-building.

Thank you to Mike Reynolds, the inventor and pioneer who has stuck with this through thick and thin, and even today is hard at work grafting Earthships around the world!

91. Have time and head-space for personal development and a spiritual / holistic lifestyle.

Many of us are turning to the inner-net for inner discovery and growth. It is not easy to do real inner work and especially spiritual practices whilst you are busy going about your business and earning money etc.. You can take as much time and space for yourself as you need if you live in an Earthship, without the many distractions of conventional city living.

92. Get paid 1$ per tyre you take from landfill.

In the UK, USA and other countries it costs a lot of money to store and manage car tire waste dumps. If you can show that you are using them to build, they will be only too happy to give them to you and cover your transport costs or more!

93. One of the cheapest options available.

If you build a modest home, and make the effort to find and re-use waste resources, you can build for very little money. There are so many people eager to learn that you can build with volunteers, and complete the build in a matter of weeks. Since you don’t need building contractors, concrete foundation pours etc.. you can start building with almost no cost other than a basic levelling of the land!

94. Maintain and fix your Earthship at low cost.

Since Earthships are low tech, and you will have had a big hand in the build process, you will know enough to be able to fix most issues that may occur. These will usually be small things like some minor cracks in mud plastering, or a water pipe blockage.. There is no need to call an expensive plumber or electrician since you will know how to fix it better than them.

95. The oldest Earthships from 1970's are still in as good shape today as when they were built.

The original Earthships in Taos, New Mexico still stand today as solid as they day they were made. Not only have they needed very minimal maintenance, but that effort that was put in around 30 years ago is paying back dividends today in terms of heating, and overall performance with no effort needed.

96. They bring you closer to nature.

The combination of having plants and trees in your home, with natural light all day, and systems that encounter the forces of nature mean that you end up becoming in tune and in synch with it. Since living in Earthship Karuna, I now wake up naturally at 5am, just before sunrise, and sleep not long after sun set. Every day has a bit more magic and intimacy to it when you live close with Mother Earth.

97. Earthships are the perfect ambient temperature for year-round fermentation & probiotics.

The stable temperature of an Earthship means that you can create many healthy natural medicines such as kambutcha, kimchi, miso, yogurt etc.. The year round day and night warm temperature means that your cultures will grow and thrive in your home.

98. You don't have to chop wood anymore.

Surviving the winter in a cold climate can mean a lot of preparation and hard work chopping and storing wood or fuel to heat their home. Some people say that tire ramming is too energy consuming to do, without taking into account that, "Every tyre you pound today is another 10 kilos of wood you don't have to chop tomorrow.

99. The fact that there are 99 reasons that Earthships Are Fuc!*ng Awesome!

Need I say more! We have made it! Congratulations for making it to the end, I hope you can now see why I have spent 20 years of my life building and promoting Earthship Biotecture. The only way is OUT, are you ready to jump yet?

DID I MISS ANYTHING? ;-)))))

OK now to turn this into a book and somehow NOT publish it on Amazon! If any of you have any tips of a suitable publisher or advice on how to publish outside of Amazon id love to hear from you!

Living off-grid in an Earthship home is about many things. It is not just an ethical choice or a building type choice, it is also a lifestyle choice. When you start to live off-grid, and self-sufficiently, you embark on a break out from the matrix/zeitgeist. You start to unplug yourself from the normal, dependent, vulnerable, and highly controlled way of life that many people are used to in cities and highly developed countries. When you are truly self-sufficient and out of debt you take away some of the main sources of stress: buying food, paying the bills, covering the mortgage or rent, and needing to work full-time to allow this to continue. We can also look at environmental issues and great need to build smarter and in a more connected way, especially in the face of climate change. Our global population is rising and with it the poverty level and inequality of wealth in all forms. To compound this issue, the cost of living is also hurtling up! We are moving toward a very unsafe and unsustainable future if we continue to build and live in the same way that we have been doing.

Did you know, I built four Earthships in India as well as being instrumental the creation of the first Earthship in the UK, Earthship Brighton. If you are also on this path and would like to read my story, I have recently published a book. It is not only a great story, but a valuable resource for you to learn from. I had no experience or training when I embarked on my mission, but managed to successfully build a gorgeous home called Earthship Karuna.

You can buy this book with Steem on the homesteaders co-op. Whilst you are there please do have a look at some of the other products as there are all kinds of great things there!
