Understanding Why We Have Different Perceptions To What Happens Around Us

in #ecotrain6 years ago (edited)

In our interaction with the world and specially with people, we usually face situations that challenge our established concepts and interpretations of the world.

The basic premise that certain things exist for ones but they don't exist for others is a natural consequence of our perceptions. The simple fact that a blind person cannot see the colors of the world doesn't mean that there's something wrong with them.

Everything that exist is perceived by our senses. That's how we can affirm and confirm the veracity of things. Now what happens after we verify a reality? Well, I'll explain this with the following situation:

When we see a piece of art, we display a reaction. And that reaction is triggered the moment we interpret what we're seeing. Our mind through our visual sense translates the appearance and composition of the object into understandable interpretations.

For instance, you could imagine that right now someone is watching you while you're looking at the screen, reading these words, and that person would tell you that you're NOT reading in front of a laptop or desktop. However, If a person who had never seen a computer in his life is watching you now, he would say that you're watching TV because the only similar device he knows where images are displayed is a TV set.

On the other hand, IF a person who had always lived in a community where he was told that that thing where you sit is called table, and that person would come up at this right moment, and see you sat on a chair, he would tell you that you're sitting on table. And you'd probably find it amusing. But the person would ask himself whether there was something odd in his words that provoke your reaction because he would see the same manifestation that other people in his same community see.

So, he will give it the very mental image than others will do. But the person would interpret the image received according to his own understanding. However, the fact that he calls the chair table with sincerity and full understanding on his part, it won't affect the true existence of the object, except for him, or in regards to his consciousness.

Children's Blind Faith

All of us know how wonderful the imagination of children may be; how they think their parents know everything; and are completely good, and that have the magic power to do anything or give them everything.

Such faith affect their reasoning and understanding but it doesn't affect the conditions of the parents at all. A child can believe that his father and mother can give him whatever he wants, but that doesn't allow them to do it.

The child might also think later in life that everyone on earth is as good as their parents, and that there is no evil in the world. And although this has impact on the child, and can turn him more honest, optimistic, kind, thoughtful, and idealistic in every way, it has certainly no influence on the conditions of the world.

As the child's brain discards beliefs after beliefs and adopts new ones, two things happen:

  1. The child has new concepts about the things that already exist.
  2. There's a different relationship or a series of experiences in connection with the world.

Therefore, as we grow up, our mortal mind doubts and changes constantly in its interpretations and beliefs, which in turn affect our understanding of the world and our consciousness of the things that exist.

Empathy

We always feel attachment to those on which we can identify certain characteristics that are also in us. And the people whom we deposit fondness might share our views, but will they remain a hundred percent identical?

No exactly, anyone can adopt new concepts which go in opposite direction of others. He/She can get them from experiences that tumble down the old views. Then a total and new interpretation will exude from the beliefs this person has.

Countless interpretations...

No matter how much empathy we feel towards somebody, we will not share the same interpretations eternally because throughout our life we change due to personal experiences.

The people around us can notice our change and we can notice theirs. They or we can decide to either accept it or reject it, but people will never stop looking for connection. And the answer is simple: we're humans. And the nature in us whose potential is still untapped, always look for bond, even without us acknowledging it. You can say that it could be the law of attraction. But what is important is recognize and understand the meaning of our interpretations.

Are we essentially good?

In this earthly world, there's good and there's bad. Nothing can exist without the other. That's how we can know each one exist. It's through their manifestations that we are able to distinguish one from the other.

The human mind changes so quickly that in every sense, accepting its interpretations of things as bad is equivalent to accepting the testimony of a fleeting, unworthy intelligence, in which it can not be trusted, that is bad in essence, contradictory with nature, hesitant and inconstant in convictions and understanding.

None of us want to accept any similar testimony that comes from such intelligence. From the moment we accept the interpretation and impression that everything that exists is good, and that it is only the difference in degrees of goodness that we know what seems to constitute evil in this world, we begin to have awareness of a better world and find more joy in life.

From the very instant that we relegate evil to its own place, as a temporary and transitory impression of our improper understanding, evil ceases to exist for us as an effective thing in the world, and we are more in harmony with nature and its laws, and we truly feel that we're the owners and drivers of our own lives.

When a week is finishing, it is usually a good idea to take a moment and ponder on things that happen around us. It can give us a sense of control. And we can get a better grasp to begin the new week with energy and focus.

It's a good understanding of differences in perception.

The fact of forming communities that share ideas is what allow us move forward, to get to know a little more about ourselves and understand the things around us.

"Perceptions" is one of those vague and difficult to discuss topics. You have described it well... It was a good read @edave...

I appreciate your opinion @rajivv203. It is one of those fascinating subject that we might overlook. But if we ponder even for a minute the week, we can get some realization about the situation we face in our daily life.

Sometimes we look for explanations and even hit our heads to the wall while trying to fish on some answers for certain episodes that we encounter. And most of the time, those answers are in front of us. And we just need to understand that we interpret things differently. And what we must look for are the causes that originate the consequent perceptions.

Very true. .
