Let’s try an exercise today…

Mission: Make Someone’s Day

When you go outside to do your errands, go to work (whether that be at home or elsewhere), school, university, college, wherever, make it a goal to make someone’s else day.

It could be just a smile because a smile at the right moment is always more than just a smile.

It could a meaningful conversation with someone who is having a bad day, month or even year, or is just feeling lost and lonely in a wild world full of chaos. (Now the Friends theme tune is stuck in my head)

Maybe you but some lunch for the homeless person on the street.

It really doesn’t matter how big or small the gesture, just do something for someone else today that could make their day.

And when you have done it, ask yourself how it makes you feel.

It’s a good feeling, isn’t it?

Doing Stuff For Others Makes Us Happy

Something that plays a big factor in our own happiness is making those around us happy and helping them out.

When you give it any amount of thought it starts to make sense as by our very nature, we are social creatures who truly thrive when we work together. It is only logical that helping others around us contributes to our internal reward system.

Happiness increases as we help those around us improve their lives too, even if it is just a simple gesture.

It is a powerful strategy as to increase our own happiness, we increase of the happiness of those around us. And to increase the happiness around us, it starts by having a big smile on our won faces.

It is hard to do this when you are feeling down or depressed, but that is one of best times to do this exercise and by ‘forcing’ yourself to do it you force your mind to feel happiness and pride for helping someone else.

Now Make it a Habit…

As with many of the other aspects of happiness we have talked about, the key is to make them a habit.

When it becomes ingrained in your life as a daily routine, you do it on autopilot even on (especially on) days that you don’t feel like it.

It is on these days, you will be happy that you made these happiness strategies a habit and you will habitually give yourself boosts that see you through even the darkest days.

The best place to start with this strategy is to make a list of a few different things you could do to make someone’s day. They don’t have to be big or complicated.

Instead, think about little acts of kindness that you could do on a daily basis.

It might be that you treat your nearest and dearest with something, or complete strangers that look in need of cheering up.

Help someone across the road, help packing or unpacking groceries, make a meal for a neighbor that’s recently had a baby, take coffee to your other half in bed when they are feeling a little down.

All these little acts of kindness won’t just mean the world to you, but make a difference to the world around you too.

If you are having any trouble coming up with ideas search list of acts of kindness on your favorite search engine and there are literally hundreds of ideas.

Being able to put smile on someone face is always a good thing to do each because we too will need someone to put smiles on our face too.
