For the 4th week in the Medicinal Cooking Collective Diets For Ailments & Disease it's all about FRUIT!

I have chosen a few fruits to focus on but there is such an abundance of fruits that will aid in your health.

Apples

This is a fruit that I grow right beside my deck, handy for picking to put in my smoothies, salads, desserts, sauces or fresh eating right off the branch.

Apples are known to have the actions of a tonic, digestive, diuretic, detoxifying, laxative, antiseptic, antirheurmatic, and as a liver stimulant.
Fresh apples help to cleanse the system, eliminating toxins and are good for lowering blood cholesterol. They will help to keep blood sugars up and aid in digestion.

No wonder there is that old saying:

An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

Apple Pie Smoothie

Ingredients
2 organic apples cored and chopped
4 dates
2 Tbsp ground flax
dash of cinnamon
1 1/2 cup of almond milk

Blend together in blender and enjoy!

This recipe had the added fruit of dates which are high in sugar and often used as a sweetener in recipes.
Dates (along with apples) are a good source of boron which helps prevent calcium loss. They both contain vitamin A and C along with some B vitamins. Dates contain vitamin D along with valuable mineral salts.

Cabbage Apple Celery Salad

Ingredients
3 cups cabbage chopped
3 organic apples chopped
3 stalks of celery chopped
pepper to taste
2 Tbsp dulse flakes (optional)
1/4 cup walnuts finely chopped (optional)

Mix all the ingredients together in a salad bowl and serve with your favorite cold slaw dressing.

Tahinni Mayonnaise

Ingredients
1 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 cup tahinni
juice of 2 lemons
4 Tsp apple cider vinegar
5 drops of liquid stevia or sweeten to taste
1 1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp Braggs 24 herbs and spice seasoning or other herb blends to your liking

Mix all ingredients well in a glass jar and it's ready to use.
If it cools enough for the coconut oil to solidify place the jar with dressing, in a bowl of hot water to let in melt.

This dressing has lemon in it and lemon like all citrus has antioxidant and anti-cancerous qualities. All citrus are high in Vitamin C and limonene, which is thought to inhibit breast cancer. Oranges which I will include in my next recipe are a good source of choline, which improves mental functions.

Health Elixir

1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup alfalfa infusion (made by pouring 1/4 cup boiling water over 2 Tbsp chopped fresh alfalfa leaves and steeped for 10 minutes)
Half of a ripe banana chopped
4 frozen strawberries or raspberries.

Blend all ingredients together in a blender and enjoy!

Medicinal action of Bananas - Antiulcer, antibacterial, boosts immunity and lowers blood cholesterol levels.
Bananas are also high in potassium and vitamin B6 which helps prevent heart attacks,strokes and other cardiovascular problems.

Medicinal action of Strawberries - antioxidant, antiviral, anti cancer. They are also used in cleansing juices and as a mild tonic.
Raspberries will enhance immunity.
The alfalfa used in this recipe feeds the cells of the body.

The tahini mayo recipe looks awesome. I love tahini, mmm! Great post. Food is medicine! 💯❤️

Yes, I love this recipe too and once I found it I use it as my salad dressing on all different types of salads. I stopped buying salad dressing and mayo and just use this. I grind my own sesame seeds in a coffee grinder to make my own tahini, buying my sesame seeds in bulk so I can always have tahini when i want it and it keeps the cost down.
