I Just Can't Help it... Here Are More Crazy Mushrooms!!!!
Mushrooms, those weirdly shaped mushrooms that come in all sizes and crazy shapes!
I believe this one's scientific name is Geastrum Saccatum, I don't have my trusty little field guide with me at the moment, but the internet seems to work!
Commonly known as the rounded earthstar, a species of mushroom belonging to the genus Geastrum. It has a worldwide distribution and is found growing on rotting wood. It is considered inedible by mushroomers because of its bitter taste. Wiki
Here's a quick search on youtube, they are so interesting to watch open up in time lapse videos... Click Here, They literally stand up on there own! Look at some of the images and drawings online, they look like little aliens!
The scientific name for this one is Calvatia gigantea
Most giant puffballs grow to be 10 to 50 centimetres (3.9 to 19.7 in), sometimes to be 90 centimetres (35 in) in diameter; although occasionally some can reach diameters up to 150 centimetres (59 in) and weights of 20 kilograms (44 lb). The inside of mature Giant puffballs is greenish brown, whereas the interior of immature puffballs is white. The large white mushrooms are edible when young. Wiki
I really hope they're still some around ready to eat when I get back to DREAMLAND!!! I've just become convinced they're edible, really good... and I've see these puffballs growing around all summer basically but didn't want to try them.
I have seen tons of recipes but the one that looks best is sliced, battered and than fried!
Steem on and Keep Learning EVERYDAY!
If you don't like your surroundings, change them
If you don't like your situation, change it.
If you don't like your decisions, make different ones.
All of this leads to the life that YOU want to lead, not the one others want you to lead.
Life is like chess, always try and think at least 5 moves ahead, and if you can see the dead ends you can avoid them.
Earth star is so cool! time lapse is incredible
Yea isn't that timelaps really cool. What an incredible mushroom!
Glad to see that you are starting to learn some mushroom types. :)
Same here, I'm being really careful about it though... don't wanna to just eat whatever looks good!
Yeah I am always hesitant and follow the golden rule of mushroom picking/eating..."When in doubt throw it out!"
It's just too dangerous! I thought I had found a yellow chanterelle but I wasn't sure, threw it out! And there are tons of beautiful looking oyster mushrooms on sone of our trees... but again, not sure!
Yeah it is definitely best to be 100% sure! Have you gotten someone that knows mushrooms to visit yet? Learning first hand from someone knowledgeable is really the best way.
Not yet, I would love to though... I am nack in the big city now for some of the winter, so I will only be able to do a mushroom walk on the weekends.
Happy mushroom hunting!
Thank you and the same to you!
That is TOTALLY crazy that one, but how beautiful as well!
Nature has its way dude, super cool!
I wish I had taken some better photos of the earthstar! Yeah, nature surw has it's ways.
