The ecoTrain Magazine: 6th March 2019- Bringing you Amazing Content from the EcoTrain Passengers

in #ecotrain5 years ago

Welcome to another weekly Curation from the amazing Passengers of the EcoTrain.

As always we have something within the magazine to suit everyone. Posts that inspire and posts that remind us to stand up for what we believe in. This week we get to talk a walk with two of our passengers as they walk around their land and provide us with a glimpse into their lives. We also get to see a little bit of Costa Rica and get an insight into the recent protest in Torquay, Australia against a big oil company that wants to drill in the ocean. Reminding us what we can do and should be doing. On top of all that we get to share in the wisdom of the passengers.

It is our goal within the EcoTrain to make the world a better place and we are all very passionate about doing just that, which is reflected in the content we create. So sit back, enjoy and remember to show your support by upvoting, following and resteeming the content that you enjoy and lets all work towards making the world a better place together!

WELCOME!

Plastics, Pollinators & Human Action: The Current State of Things

A plastic bag was found in the Mariana Trench.

To most of us that doesn’t mean anything, but in reality it’s something every human should be alerted to. The Mariana Trench at 6.5 miles deep in the ocean, as low as the Himalayas are high, is the deepest trench in the ocean.

A team of scientists studying differences in creatures in the deepest ocean trenches have recently started to find alarming amounts of plastic in the amphipods there, specifically PCBs which though banned decades ago exist for much longer.

Homestead Life; Scouting for Firewood

Today I strapped on my snowshoes and headed into the forest to search for fallen trees. We need to harvest firewood soon.

There's an old saying about firewood that goes: wood warms you three times; when you cut it when you split it, and when you burn it.

I'd say that from experience it warms you many more times than this because there's also the lifting and loading and moving and stacking and so forth. We try to stock up on enough firewood before winter arrives so that we can avoid the challenge of doing it in deep snow but this has been a long, cold winter and our supply is getting a bit low for our comfort.

Big Oil Don't Surf: Paddle Out Protest Against Oil Drilling in Great Australian Bight

There is a humming on the water, a low buzz that sounds like bees. The thumping of boards begins to sound out like a drum across the ocean, and tens of hands begin to splash, picking it up in handfuls and throwing salty water skyward. It feels like a storm, or falling rain. I'm grinning.

The collection of boards on the beach are fabulous enough in themselves - it's like a history lesson of surfing on this coast, with everything from locally shaped 1970's single fins to more modern boards, to beaten old things spray painted with political protest. It's special. It's bigger than us, but at the same time it IS us - we are a hive, working together to protect earth honey.

The Many Pieces Of Ourselves

There are times and places where things never seem like they should be, where the idea of normality is something that is laughed at or frowned upon. For what is normal, how can such an idea exist, an idea that is meant to encompass us all. Normal in the eyes of some, is unnatural and unjust in the eyes of others. How lovely it would be to be able to write that as a statement of our times.

When, we live in a time where we do not feel this need to put people in boxes, this need to be able to define who people are, and to do so by the labels we place upon them.

Traveling by Bus... Costa Rica's less traveled roads.

Here we were, finally on our way to Rancho Mastatal, and we were going to see how enoying traveling with more luggage than we were used to really is. I typically take nothing bigger than a 40 litre backpack and my wife's is a 35 litre... this time we were lugging around those same two backpacks, with a suitcase that is just about as big as both our packs and a stroller much too cheap to carry anything but a four year old on a smooth road!

Ok so you might think that a stroller would be helpful because it's a set of wheels and we could use it for something heavy when our little homie's not in it. I was concerned about the sidewalks in central america, I didn't remember them to be the smoothest I had ever seen, we weren't going to Switzerland or anything like that!!!

Finally a Break in the Weather - A Wednesday Walk Listening to the Birds...

We have been having a lot of extreme cold weather here lately, in fact it's been the longest stretch of extreme cold in 83 years but finally it broke!

Me, JJ and Bruno are going to take advantage of our first nice day in a very long time to get out and about.

The birds are far more active now with the warmer weather instead of being hunkered down in the trees, trying to conserve heat. It was good to hear the abundance of bird calls from above the tree tops.

Come enjoy them with me in the video above. (just click the image or arrow below the image)

You cannot fix the Past; but you can shed off the burden of the Past

Past is something that is gone way behind, even a yesterday is a Past, but we humans are so much tuned to keep clinging to our past that we just do not want to let it go. Even if the now moment is beautiful we will bring in our past into our present and bring hindrances to our Present.

Something unpleasant that happened in Childhood, or some years back if we keep clinging to it how will we be ever able to move ahead. What happened in Past we absolutely had no control over it but if we do not let it go how is it going to serve any purpose to me, is something that we need to reflect on.

The Inner-net Musings, Quantum Entanglement .. and spacetime

As some of you know, this year I am focusing on what I call the Innernet. I've deactivated Facebook, and unplugged from the Internet almost completely. I hardly look at the news, and spend most of my time doing my own thing, keeping busy with many maintenance jobs and garden activities. It's been about two months now, and its been an eye opener! Even though I am located on the edge of a mountain in the far reaches of southern India, I am connected to you all and everything on the Innernet.

I have discovered a new world, and I am sill only learning what it is all about. Living more on the inner means many things to me, it is partly about unplugging from the various negative inputs of media and the general zeitgeist of fear. That is a breath of fresh air, but it is also about learning to act upon and influence others and the world from the inner.

When Men Step Up

In a world of #metoo, absent fathers and globalization which sees many children being raised by solo moms without nearby family supports and with few male role models, it's REALLY IMPORTANT to sing the praises of those men who do step up. Because we always create more of that which we give our focus and attention to.

In the fairy tale version of "it takes a village", comfortable, fully (respectably) employed stable men with wives and families will generously include your child sometimes and provide some stability, quasi-fathering and family role modeling.

@zen-art

Are your thoughts really creating your reality?

It is easy to describe something that we can see or hear but we have problems with attaching color or texture to our thoughts. They are considered non-physical even though they are, in fact, physical and what science has shown us, we can even see them. When different neurons fire up, you can see different patterns of your brain lighting up on fMRI. You can check some amazing research that has actually succeeded in decoding and reconstructing people’s dynamic visual experiences in the links below the post. There is a mind-reading’ algorithm that can decode the pictures in your head but let's start with simple things, if you do not believe that thoughts can create physical things, tell a sexy story to the first man next to you and see what happens. A healthy man does not need anything, not movies or pictures, nothing except for his own thoughts to get an erection.
