Rose Scrub - Teaching the future generation on 'How to help ourselves and mother earth'

in #ecotrain5 years ago
In today's world, our brains are overloaded with various kinds of beauty hacks. But it is entirely our choice on what do we choose to put over our bodies. Its not just us who are targets. But kids also fall into the traps because of television - they develop false beliefs that the beauty cream, shampoo and oils would do some kind of magic for them. Then it becomes responsibility of people they live with to make them believe in the magic of mother nature.

I have two nieces, 3 and 8 years old. They are at my home for their summer vacations and I decided to teach them on the value of keeping things natural and how it helps us in living a better life. Though the younger niece is too young to understand what I say but the older one gets it all. I, as an adult, use mostly natural products on my body - I hate buying expensive creams and commercial products only to put them on my body and intoxicate myself further.

@Ecotrain and @Naturalmedicine has come up with a prompt where you can display you ideas of alternative consumption which are earth friendly and of-course health friendly. Check here

Natural Rose Scrub - Alternative to commercial scrubs

What you need:

Sugar - For its exfoliating properties
Rose Petals - For its natural juices
Coconut Oil - For moisture
Clean Jar - To store the scrub
Clean tray - For mixing and crushing purpose.

We took some rose flowers. Then we used sugar and coconut oil to make scrub which can be used on any portion of body and can be stored in a cool place for 6 months.

We took some rose flowers and plucked the petals out. I made the younger niece a 'Plucker' and the older niece a 'Quality Inspector' where I asked her to make sure the younger one does everything nicely. I sat with them and did the same thing on another set of flowers.

After the freshest rose petals were plucked. We soaked them in water to clean them for any soil or dirt. Then we spread them on a clean tray.

Then we crushed the rose petals into smallest bits with our hands. It would help secrete the rose petals juices and fragrance.

Then comes the part of taking sugar and oil. We took them in the quantities that you see in below picture.

Then we mixed it all well and put the scrub into a clean jar.

So we from rose petals we made rose scrub which is pretty amazing. My niece got excited and loved the idea. I made her bath with the scrub later and bathed myself too. This is my idea of alternative consumption where I don't need to opt for commercial products which are full of harmful chemicals.

The good part is when the my rose scrub goes out in drain after my use, it does not harm mother nature.

Woo-hoo

Ah... I'm just kidding... hahaha

Very interesting tip:)

I love products with such simple recipes. Also, I'm a big fan of the smell of rose petals. Great job! I'm sure your niece is going to remember this the next time she is subjected to some advertisement about some expensive and toxic product that harms nature, is made by an exploitative company, which on top of all may not even have the promised effects.

Yeah me too love rose fragrance, exactly that is what I wanted to teach my niece, I wanted her to show how effective and amazing natural stuff can be. :)
