It is necessary to know that all behavior is selected by the environment and its consequences. The consequences that cause behaviors to repeat themselves are called reinforcements and those that cause behavior to not reappear are called punishments.

The behaviors can be changed without the other person realizing it instantly. To modify the behaviors without having to perform for example:

  • Punishments.
  • Shouting.
In the selection of behaviors, for example, the punishment with screams make the children descend behaviors that may not appear in the future, but the punishment is usually an aversive, which generates:

  • Negative emotions.
  • Frustration.
  • Rage.
  • Fear.
  • Rage towards the one who does the punishment.
  • This generates a negative idea of ​​themselves in the child. Making them believe:

    • That they are not good.
    • That are not worth.

    But unlike reinforcement, this causes the desired behavior to be shown again, to remain and emotions to generate pleasure.


    To modify the behaviors, the adult must be less attentive to negative behaviors

    People observing only negative behavior without realizing it, are putting their eyes and attention on what tends to be maintained.

    When a child behaves well and is not paid attention, that behavior changes and the desire to attract attention returns, as more attention is paid to negative things than to positive ones.

    The adult should ask the child to do something specific, letting him know that he is seeing it and saying the words "I have caught you" and, at the same time, smiling enthusiastically so that the child feels happiness to continue doing it. This attitude is due to the attention paid.

    Then you should ask the child questions about: how has this made him feel? What is desired is that this positive behavior is what I continued in the future.

    All behaviors followed by a reinforcer reappear and this is what you should look for.
