Things we don't learn in school- How to make decisions

We all make decisions on a daily basis, whether it is what to eat, or what to wear it doesn’t matter.  To make decisions are mostly based on what is good for us. We eat what we like and we wear what we like.  We often do not have to think about it because it has become such routine that it is part of the natural flow of our day.

All decisions are not so easy to make.  Sometimes we have to make decisions that could affect our lives negatively, and those are not so easy to make.

There are certain steps to follow when we make decisions and even though we might use the basic steps it still doesn’t mean that it is the right one to make.

How do I make a decision?

Identify the problem.  Once the problem is identified, make a list of all the negative and positive aspects of the problem.  If there are too many negatives, then it is obviously the wrong decision.

Gather information and compare this to previous similar problems you might have had.  Think about the results.  If it didn’t work in the past, there would be no reason why doing the same thing would benefit you now in any way, but it is still important to weight up your options.

Just because a problem seems similar doesn’t mean it is.

Once you have weighed up all your options you have to make a firm decision.

Once you have made your decision it is of no use to worry about the result.  Life is all about choices and we have to live with the consequences.

After you have made your decision, you have to wait to see if your decision had the desired result.  If it did, good for you but if it didn’t and it backfires, there is no use to dwell about what might have been.

What to do if you have to make a quick decision?

The process described above is also used when making quick decisions.  It is just done faster and you don’t have time to compare all the consequences.

In reality you need a longer time period to make a fair decision, but if you are in a situation where you have to decide quickly and it is a matter of life and death, we usually choose the easiest option.

This is the exact reason why people are scared of change. We are so used to being in our comfort zones and if something dares to take us out, we always choose the safest option because that is what we know.

Even if our whole life consists of making choices there is no use to dwell on past experiences. Making the wrong choices is part of the learning curve in life, and we learn from previous experiences.

A donkey never hits the same stone twice.....

Actually the hardest part of making the decision is to actually do the decision...at least that is what I feel. You can repeat the entire plan in your head for hours and still you will still be reluctant to move to the next stage because you just have a feeling that it might go wrong or you aren't just in the mood for that time...

But hey, most of the times it just needs some simple action...take the first step and it's less likely for you to move back :)

Great Post! me , I pray and then I look for the answer. The key with this method though is that I have to be living on a spiritual basis - meaning that I have to be not committing any harm to others and I have to have cleaned up all my harms and debts to individuals in order to live this way. When I had to buy a new2me car this past month after being hit by a drunk driver, I had to do what you say here but after I found out the exact car I wanted, then I prayed for the right one to show up, and it apparently has. If I have to make a snap decision, I often just rely on prayer and looking for the answer, soley. I also make sigils to help as well. Using the Trivium is also a great way to make decisions - and is pretty similar to what you talk about here.

Praying works for everything. I am a firm believer that everything just works out the way it should. I'm glad you found a new car. I bought a brand new car last year for the first time in my life and I am very impressed with myself! :)

oh yea - buying a brand new car is an experience! I was able to do that back in 94 but I don't have the means to do that right now. Congratulations! And I am glad you know about prayer... so few seem to.

Thank! Great post. I think that decision making is influenced in many respects not only by our own choices, but also by the environment in which we are located and the people with whom we interact the most.
Some people are by nature very indecisive. This is normal, because each of us is afraid of what will happen to him in the future. In the moments of making serious decisions, I always think that any decision of mine is the right choice. Because the wrong in this world simply does not exist. It's like a road with a fork. No matter which side you choose, you will go forward anyway.

As a pre teen my dad told me,
When you have the time and it is an important decision, ask all your friends for their opinion, listen, they may (a remote may) have thought of something you have missed.
Do what you were going to do, those who agreed will think you listened to them, those who dissagree will think something has changed or you would have done what they suggested.
The main thing was just in case you had missed an imoprtant part in the decision.

I think being objective while making decision is important.

Good post and yes, it should be taught at school level. Might have made life a hell of a lot easier for lost of us. Thank you for the good post about it. 😊 I apologize for not upvoting but my vp is currently on the beach trying to recharge the batteries.

Ha ha....no worries, but try to keep your voting power at 80 percent. It will roughly give you 20 people to vote maybe a little more, and it would recharge in 24 hours. That way you never struggle with vp. Thanks for reading!

Thank you for the advice. I normally did but I recently lost some delegations and didn't realize in time so up and away went the vp. 😉 So now it's taking some time out at the beach.
