MONTESSORI EDUCATIONAL REVOLUTION: DO NOT DISTURB YOUR KIDS' DEVELOPMENT

in #education6 years ago (edited)

The method of upbringing and development of children, founded by Maria Montessori, is becoming more and more popular.

If several years ago her name wasn't very popular, now there is no resource devoted to children that doesn't not mention the name of this woman. In Russia Montessori has become extremenly popular now!

Why? And is her method worth of such glory?

Montessori was a famous Italian doctor that devoted all her life to development of her own way of kids' upbringing. It's very simple, but very deep and wise at the same time.

Nevertheless, her method has many haters and is much criticized by many parents who are used to rule their kids and who are sure they know what is better for their children.

Why has Montessoru made a revolution in upbringing?

The thing is that the main essence of her methos is - don't disturb your kids' development!

Montessori insists that kids must NOT be forced in anything!

Parents and teachers do NOT interfere in the process of studying life and the world.

They are just observers, he is an actor, children of different ages around - his assistants and guides.

There're many different preschool organisations that Montessori method and show perfect results!

SO what do kids do there?

Just what they want! Teachers show them different toys and didactic materials, and kids choose what they like to do BY THEMSELVES.

So, these "lessons" aren't lessons in our classical perceprion, kids aren't boring, kids aren't tired, and they really get pleasure!

it has much in commom with unschooling, because kids use not standard ways of studying and getting new knowledges about this world.

One more important thing: Montessori system proves that kids should be involved in ordinary life activities!

It means they must be taught to clean, to wash, to wipe the dust, to water the flowers, hang clothes on the rope for drying and even to cook! All things that their parents are used to do every day!

Many parents are shocked and consider it to be a kind of kids' slavery. Of course, it is NOT!-)

It's a wise way to show kids REAL life, and to help them to be ready for it from their childhood.

Many parents are afraid it's too complicated and too boring for kids. Vice versa!

Kids are fond of doing all these things!

I didn't belive in it until I didn't see how interesting it was for my own baby!

He didn't like to play stupid toys, but he was fond of watching how I was washing, cleaning or cooking, and then I proposed him to help me. How happy he was!

He felt he was my main assistant, he could do the same things that his Mom did, he was so proud of himself! And I was proud of him to-)

From that time we do almost everything together. He helps me to cook: we slice together, he сleans the eggs, cuts fruit, pours ingredients for the pie into the table and so on.

Just like madam Montessori proposed to do!

And she was right,** it really works**!

  • a baby is involved in ordinary life
  • he feels he is able to do important things like grown-ups
  • his self-confidence grows fast, it helps him to be sure he CAN do everything
  • he is used to do many useful things to take care of himself by himself
  • he develops really fast!

Parents must not buy expensive toys to develop their kids: life can do it even better!
Just let them "taste" this life by themselves.

Fine motor skills, coordination of movements, mastering new skills - Montessori method really shows great effectiveness!

We have no Montessori organisations in our city yet. I was sad, but then I understood that I can create this very Montessori envirnment for my baby at home.

Freedom? You're welcome! Choose what you will play with now by yourself, and play how you like to do it.
Help adults in everyday activities? Fine! You're welcome to make bread or swipe the floor with me.

I remember the main advice of Maria Montessori - ### don't disturb, don't interfere into your baby's world.

His nature is wise, he knows better what He needs and when, just be an observer and an assistant whe he asks for it, not when you seem he needs it.

I see great wisdom in these words, and I'm sure it's the right way for kids' development in harmony with their inner world.

What do you think of it?Have you heard about Montessori? Is it popular in your place?

Sort:

It's interesting to know where the word Montessori comes from. But you know that it is not the same concept here in India, rather Montessori has become like one grade before a child gets into a Nursery class which is by the age of 1 and a half and at that age you can imagine the little kids hardly have any senses, they are just made to play with some blocks and a few other things and these Montessori classes are more expensive than normal schooling. It's a good money making business in my city

yes, dear, we've these classes in Russia too, and they're really not cheap at all! but most parents prove they're worth it.
the problem is many schools are opened as Montessori classes, but they even don't know what it mean! they just use her name. Shame..
