How to Recover Files Not Showing / Hidden in USB Flash Drive Using CMD
Have you experienced inserting your flash drive to other computers like in some computer shops because you have some important matters to do and then when you tried to view your files at home, you cannot see the files anymore? Like it is just showing some shortcuts?
Well, I guess you are not the only one experiencing this so inconvenient thing that happened to your flash drive. We've been there many times, especially during our college days. :)
So, today we will try to give a fix for that matter. What are the reasons for those instances that happened? Usually, it is because of the computer that you inserted with a flash drive is infected with a computer virus.
What is a computer virus?
Basically, it is a piece of code which is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data.
So let's begin.
Open your flash drive's files through File Explorer. You can try to show the hidden files by following on the image below.
If nothing shows, then you really got infected. So we proceed to this step. Open you CMD or command prompt by typing in the start button or windows menu. Please refer image below.
After it is opened, kindly check the drive letter of your flash drive. As in my computer, I would the letter "F:".
Then in your command prompt or CMD, type the drive letter then enter, for example for me, its "F:". This means you are currently inside of your flash drive. Then finally type, "attrib -a -r -s -h . /s /d". Basically, what it does is that it forcefully show all the hidden files which are currently affected by some viruses.
When you successfully followed all the given steps, you will now show your files on your flash drives and you can use it now very well. But in most cases there are so some strange files that will appear unto that, you just delete it.
