Barangay Election 2018: May the best leaders win!

The day has finally come. The moment of truth as they say. The most awaited part of selecting a good and true leader that would be ruling us for several years in our community. The Barangay Chairman, Councilors and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Here in the Philippines, there should be one chairman or what we called Kapitan in every Barangay. Of course, there are also these group of people that would be assisting the chairman, they are called as the Councilors or known as the Kagawads. Usually we only elect one chairman and seven councilors.

The Philippines’ Government have only given a one week campaign for the candidates. It was started last May 4 and ended up last May 12, 2018. Different tactics were strategized by the candidates for them to get known and showcase their abilities to the voters. They did house to house visits and parades, organized meeting de avance where they introduced their selves and properly discuss their platforms, a vehicles strolling around in the community that has a loud jingles or should I say, a loud recorded voice telling to vote for him/her.

It was nice seeing these candidates how eager they are in getting the position. The funny thing on this campaign is that It was like that they were our admirers that keep on courting us from time to time in our house just to get our YES to them. Instead of flowers, they gave special services like medical mission, feeding program and etc. They also tend giving foods ,drinks, soaps, pales , groceries and even a kilo of chicken and pork in every household. Haha. But of course, I know these are only part of their campaign the way to promote their selves.

Seriously, For me I’m not into of the material things they give. If you are really concern and want some change to your community, you should select the best leader. A leader who has a great platforms and actions, looking for public service and not for money. A leader who will be the voice of his/her community. A leader who is willing to commit himself/herself in serving their community and most importantly , a leader who has a big heart for everyone from the start up to the end of their term.

This early morning, I went to our Barangay Elementary school where the election of candidates usually held. I know behind this ink on my finger are the candidates I have selected for a better community! May the best leaders win!
