Electroneum released an updated version of their app a few days ago, and it introduces some fairly significant changes. There first thing I noticed is that they raised the payout threshold. It used to transfer earned ETN to your wallet once it hit about 10, but now it says it pays out at 100 ETN. I haven't got to that yet since the update, so I can't say for sure.

The other big thing that has changed is they added a keep alive button. Every 7 days at least, you need to go in and hit the button to keep the app running in the background. This seems unnecessary, since the app rarely runs for more than a day or so without crashing. But the reason they did it was to combat bots. Apparently they had a big problem with fake accounts running the app service, which was taking away from the intended audience: actual people running the app on their mobile devices. When you click the button to keep the app running, you have to prove you're a person. But these aren't the normal captchas. Sometimes it has you take a selfie while making a certain hand gesture. Or draw a specific shape on a piece of paper and take a picture of it.

The wallet screen seems the same. It just lists the transactions in and out of your wallet.

So, if you're interested in earning crypto by running an app in the background of your phone, check out Electroneum. And if you decide to install it, and found this article interesting or informative, feel free to use my referral code. One you install the app, click the gear icon that says "More", then click on "Referrals". Then you can scan the QR code below. Thanks!

Mobile mining enthusiasts, also have a look at Steemeum, a virtual mobile miner on the Steem blockchain.

Electroneum states that it is using cloud mining and if it is device mining it would not be available on the playstore due to rules

So in theory, it should be mining, even if the app is not running on my device? I have not found this to be the case.

that must be some kind of error or something since they state that the mining process takes in their servers
