The owl, as befits a large bird of prey, has become a symbol of nocturnal, dark, ominous power among many nations. She brings fear with eyes shining in the dark, noiseless approaching in flight and a frightening, coarse voice. So for good reason the owl has become an evil, and even terrifying, symbol of many ancient peoples, especially in China. Because of her nocturnal lifestyle, she was associated with black magic, the afterlife, death and sorrow. However, a number of other nations had an owl and positive symbolism.
Therefore, the general meaning of owl tattoos today is not uniform - wisdom and fear, loneliness, higher intelligence, seal and joy.
