Ashers Big(ish) Words Contest - 1000 Steem Power Up For Grabs!

in #engagement6 years ago (edited)

Good day everyone!

Now that i'm back here for most of my waking hours, I have much more time to do more personalised data gathering, and delegate some Steem Power in the process.

The words to be totaled

This time, I've found a set of words that are generally positive and may have been typed by you over the past 10 months. The list of words I collected in the first instance were all fourteen letters long, but after running them against a selection of accounts I realised that I needed to shorten them a bit. My results on the original 25 fourteen letter words - 0 for the whole of this year!

The words I've chosen are as follows:

  • AFFECTIONATE
  • AGGRANDIZEMENT
  • BENEFICIAL
  • COLLECTIVENESS
  • DELIGHTFUL
  • DISRUPTIVENESS
  • ENTERTAINING
  • GROUNDBREAKING
  • HEDONISTIC
  • ILLUMINATING
  • LEGITIMATE
  • MAJESTICAL
  • NOTEWORTHY
  • OPTIMISTIC
  • PRECOCIOUS
  • THOUGHTFULNESS
  • UNCONVENTIONAL
  • OUTSTANDING

These are my results, and I think we can safely assume that someone on will easily beat this measly total of 27!

Even though English is my first language, you could be forgiven for assuming otherwise. I'm not a wordy person by any means, and prefer to write and speak in straightforward English. With my excuses out of the way, lets have a look at what the numbers look like for you guys - and maybe you can win some delegated SP at the same time.

Rules / Prizes

  • The data is collected from the 1st January 2018 to the 22nd October 2018. No point writing a bunch of comments with this words today and then asking for a chart!
  • 1st prize, 500 delegated SP for a month
  • 2nd prize, 350 delegated SP for a month
  • 3rd prize, 150 delegated SP for a month
  • The prizes will be issued on the day this post pays out
  • In the event of ties, I will think of something

OK then, who wants a bar chart and a chance to win some delegated Steem Power?

Cheers!

Asher

I've decided to share out the SP a bit more between the best scores:

I will delegate these amounts on the 1st November and cancel them on the 1st December.

Thanks for taking part!

hey, @abh12345.

Wasn't expecting this at all. Thank you. It is very much appreciated. I guess I'll need to get my act together now, which not only means using the SP to curate, but also managing to see when you mention me in a comment! I think I must have dozed off on Tuesday, or something!

Congratulations everyone, especially @newageinv and @blazing for the 250 SP delegations, and to @chireerocks, @melinda010100 and @themanwithnoname, who I seem to be congratulating quite a bit lately. :) Well done to all of us. :)

Thanks, buddy! You've been doing well yourself. Looking forward to seeing where you can go from here!

I have to say, October's monthly report is the first one I'm really looking forward to writing in months. Lately, my interest has been to see just how bad I did. This time, it will be to see how well I did despite how bad I did. :)

Work doesn't always equate to success, at least not in the moment. A lot of times it's seed planting for a future time, or just plain luck, being in the right place at the right time. Sure, you had to put yourself in the situation, but then there's a lot of other things that need to happen that are way out of your control for things to work out.

That's kind of the way things went in October, and there's just no reasonable way to duplicate that again. So, I'll just keep grinding away and see what happens.

That's good you're actually looking forward to it. It's important to enjoy your time on Steemit. Although you work it like a job, so maybe it's not as important to enjoy it.

If you're looking for more ways to earn income by commenting on quality articles, you should check out Curie's comment contest. You can basically go to the articles that they comment on, read the post, and leave a relevant comment. The top commenters can get some good Steem prizes. It's income, and it's honorable because you're actually engaging and contributing. https://busy.org/@curie/curie-comment-contest-october-21st-october-28th-2018

Yeah. I know all about the curie contest. I'm normally on the list towards the bottom, but last week didn't work out at all.

I do like getting something from them, though, so I need to get back into it this week. I'm also competing in the C-squared/C-cubed contests. These are all great because I'm not doing anything more than what I would normally do. A rough estimate from October saw me earning/winning 20 STEEM from the various contests. Better than a poke in the eye, and probably three times what I would make off of 20 non curied posts in a month.

I thought I had seen you there before. I just wanted to make sure. I got to the bottom part of the list the last few weeks. Last week I tried really hard, and still only got last place (I think) so we'll see what I'm able to do this week.

I don't think I'm in any of the C-squared contests. Are they engagement-based?

Pretty much. They have some kind of super top secret algorithm for at least one of them. :) Since you're already signed up for Asher's Engagement League (that's one part of this), you'll just need to go over to the C-squared server and put your name in, I think is how it worked. I haven't done it in a while, but there should be some instructions. You'll find all the usual suspects there, too.

Then you basically go curate and comment on the ones you like from the c-cubed curated lists, plus the ones C-squared has commented on. So, basically similar to the curie contest. You'll want to get caught up to speed better than that, but that's the general idea.

Thanks Glen, well done to you and all the a fore mentioned for adding this collection of 'biggish' words to the blockchain this year :)

In my case, it's a distinct pleasure and honor to do so. :)

In a world where reading has been on the decline for decades, where the actual use of 'big' words has not only been offset by smaller words, but many times supplanted by acronyms which replace many words at a time—I'm glad to be a rebel in the big word counter revolution. :)

@glenalbrethsen, Thank you so much and congratulations to you too. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

Thank you, @chireerocks.

I've got a monthly report I write about how I did with an assortment of categories that I'm actually looking forward to writing this time in months, even though I know I didn't do so well with things like comments and posts. October was good for me and while I have no idea how I'm going to duplicate it in November, let alone surpass it, I'm certainly wanting to try. :)

It would be nice if October became the norm rather than the outlier, but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Welcome, and most important thing is, let it flow how it's moving because most of the times when we see stats then that stats always going to remind itself. So we have to move in flow and stats will going to buildup accordingly. Keep up the great work and wishing you an great heights. Stay blessed. 🙂

@abh12345, Oh, that's awesome and for sure it will going to add value to whatever Engagement efforts i am putting brother. Keep up the great and boosting work. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

My pleasure, thanks for taking part and well done on your score :D

Welcome and thank you so much. 🙂

That's what the delegation was from. I remember looking at this when it came out, but didn't realize I had won something! Thanks, Asher! I'll put it to good use over the next month. I promise not all of the RCs will get spent on Steem Monsters. ;)

Well @abh12345. Even when english is not my first or native tongue, just for the sake of it, let's snoop to see how many of those big words are hidden & embedded inside the core of my weird spanglish. };)

A lovely selection here! :D

Oh crap! that's unconventionally disruptive, hedonistic and groundbreaking my friend. Well, 'that' not to say it was delightfully noteworthy, majestical and entertaining!! LoL

Haha! I'm am pretty sure you'll come up with a blank for me! I used pessimistic recently, but I don't think optimistic.

Some bars on the chart at least, cheers!

Uh, most of these aren't words I typically use - does this mean I'm generally negative then? I hope not, so please let me know if I used at least one of them ;)

You have one 'outstanding' to your name :D

As a non-native speaker (but an excellent one at that) these 'word contests' are going to be tough to score high. I'll have to go back to the numbers next time!

phew, at least one! :D
Thanks for checking!

Yes please for my usage of these words. Thanks Asher, the Bar(chart)man ;-P

hahaha! Epic! :D :D I might have to use this image at some point, awesome!

23 and good use of 'delightful' :D

Your Delightful response is both Noteworthy and Illuminating, and makes me Optimistic that some Beneficial Entertainment is to be Affectionately had. I'm Delighted! ;-)

I'd enjoy seeing how I fared. :)

Let's have a look...

72 total and 9 different words, very good!

I fared fairly well. ;)

I must have been entertained at some point. I have noticed that I tend to use a similar word or phrase many times within a short span, and then I'll find a new word or phrase that I start using. It's not something that I specifically attempt to do, it just happens.

I would have scored higher with aggrandizement or self-aggrandizement, but I prefer to use "self-reward" instead.

That was an "entertaining" query. Thanks for running the numbers!

My pleasure. These posts always do pretty well as far as engagement is concerned, even when there is no prize at stake.

Self-reward, selfie, selfish-git? :) - we have has at least one person with a match though, and no, it wasn't Ned!

It's fun to see where you land in regards to other people, even if there's no prize.

Hey, how difficult is it to do a chart of an accounts SP over time, week by week? Now that I'm doing the minnow power-up league, I'm curious how I did from week to week over the last while. I know the rate has increased since my first few months. ;)

Difficult, as there is no history table that i see for the accounts table.

I suspect that people are building these warehouses right now and so at some point we can map account growth.

Although I do not need the SP delegation (but thanks), I would like to know as well! Please leave me out of the competition as other would benefit more from the delegation. Thanks!

Ok I will do that, very good of you - let's see :D

165 and the clear leader! Someone will be grateful for you opting out of the delegation, excellent stuff!

Wow! To think I don’t consider myself a “glass half full” type of guy! I guess it is my passion for Steem and crypto that gets me positive!

Positivity is free, thanks for sharing it around 😁

i think those are out of my dictionary hahah but still would want to have a look :)

What the blazing is going on here?!

I've had to reset the axis to fit that 106 on - 126 in total, and a clear leader, outstanding!

I wonder if @blazing will be back...

You're back! And in the lead!

Good afternoon, @abh12345.

'Big' words, eh? Intriguing. I would very much like to see my chart, please. I really don't know how it's going to turn out, but I'm going to predict that there are some words I've not written in a comment or a reply:

  • aggrandizement—that's ned's word.

  • collectiveness—collective, collectively, maybe

  • distruptiveness—disruptive, probably

  • hedonistic—can't imagine how I would slip that one in there :)

  • majestical—didn't know it was a word :)

  • precocious—doubtful

Now, watch. I will have instances of all of those and none of the rest. :)

Oh, and I'm not looking for a delegation here (even if I did manage to 'win'). This is simple curiosity, since I do like 'big' words. :)

Good day Glen

As always, the words wont suit everyone, and i suspect it will be one or two words by someone using them a lot that will win the day. Let's have a look..

A grand total of 95, great stuff! (And you used neds word twice :D )

Weird. :) I must have been talking about him using the word. :) As for entertaining, I would have never guessed I used it that many times. I'm not that easily entertained, or so I thought.

If I had guessed actual high usage, optimistic and legitimate would be about the highest. I have no idea how beneficial sneaked in there.

Well, thank you. As always, a fun, and enlightening exercise. :)

It's my pleasure, and I'm glad you think so. Look out for a few more of these I suspect :D
