The league tables are reset each week and so any time is a good time to join!

On your marks, get set, curate!

The Engagement League - Sponsored by @curie

This league is not based around financial rewards and relates to engagement.

Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - including those powering down or dealing in delegations over the past couple of weeks.

I've used some metrics (which is the fancy way of saying that made up some numbers) relating to:

  • Posts (P)
  • Comments - number of (C)
  • Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
  • Comments - length in characters (C L)
  • Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
  • Upvotes to others (V)
  • Upvotes to different authors (U V)
  • Self-votes - a (getting smaller each week) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)

Firstly, if you are placed in the table above then you among the top 20% of the league entrants!

Congratulations to this weeks Engagement League winner, you already know who it is, @janton! ๐Ÿ†

That's 5 in a row and this week, almost 1000 unique comments! Well done sir!

The lovely @lynncoyle1 has been on it this week and takes 2nd, with the also lovely @gillianpearce finishing in 3rd place. Good stuff ladies!

Excellent engagement levels also from @smithlabs, @themanwithnoname, @funbobby51, @cicisaja, @rentmoney, @headchange, and @denmarkguy who will all be receiving some STEEM this week.

Also, well done to @glenalbrethsen for his engagement and allowing the prizes to go further down the list!

Those without a self-vote (from their main account at least! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ) and placed in the top ranks will also receive a little STEEM. These people are: @bashadow, @hashcash, @eveningart, @enjar, @tryskele, @maverickinvictus, @mariannewest, and @veryspider.

The Curation League / Rewards based

The raw data has been collected from SteemSQL - @arcange's MS SQL Server copy of the Steem Blockchain.

The formula used for 'quality of financial curation skill' is:

Curation Rewards DIVIDED BY Steem Power MULTIPLIED BY 1000

This will return the amount of Curation rewards gained per 1000 Steem Power held

The rules (which will cause auto-filtering of your account if not met so just enter anyway and see what happens!) to appear in this league:

  • No programmed voting! Following a trail is OK, using a script to vote for you is not (but well done if you have done that!)

  • Must have voted at least once on a piece of content in the past 7 days

  • Must not have leased or delegated Steem Power in the last 14 days

  • Must not have Started a Power Down (withdrawal of Steem Power) in the last 15 days

The 2nd and 3rd points above are not 'bad' actions, but are required to reduce distortion of the figures.

And, as curation rewards for the past week are actually taken from votes made up to 14 days ago, we need a two week 'window' as mentioned above.

Don't let this put you off entering though - you will be automatically be excluded/appear each week, depending on the criteria above.

The end column is what I think is a genuine indicator of how well you are financially working the curation game with the tools, including vested Steem Power, that you have at your disposal.

@steemitri wins again! The manual mannequin is on a roll :D

Is it just me or did last week just fly by? It seems like just yesterday I was up way too early and commenting on how well everyone did.

@abh12345, thank you for the lovely prize. It's just my size! How did you know? I have already powered it up to continue my long-term growth on Steemit. I don't know how many times I've gotta a prize, but it's been quite a few times and I appreciate the extra padding the prizes have meant for my SP levels. Being a part of the Engagement League has been one of the driving factors in my growth on Steemit. Thank you!

Also, Asher, well done on your placement in the League! You did really well. :)

@curie, thank you for generously sponsoring the leagues so that Asher's prizes can be dispensed. I would participate without the prizes, but they make it so much sweeter. It's nice to know that my work from the previous week was appreciated and that I have a little more to power up as a result. Thank you!

@janton, you're unstoppable, good sir! 969 comments, that's crazy! I don't know how you find the time to do it, but good on you. You've become a networking/engagement master and your fifth win in a row is well-deserved.

@lynncoyle1, you put on a great showing there and even edged @glenalbrethsen! That's an accomplishment for sure! Both of you do an incredible amount of commenting and engaging, so it's no surprise that you would be at the top of the engagement league. :)

@gillianpearce you were right there in the thick of it, although I seem to remember you saying that you were going to slow down a bit, so if this is your slowing down, I don't want to know what your scores would have looked like if you had kicked it into high gear. Ha ha. Well done.

@smithlabs you had an impressive showing across the board. Good number of comments and second level comments. Lots of upvotes given. Plenty of unique votes. That's a really great showing and we'll look for more from you in the future.

@themanwithnoname, you're handsome and amazing. You're so smart and talented. I'm proud of you how you're always trying new things, even when they don't end up working out. Keep that fearless spirit. I want you to know that I like you a lot and think you're the coolest. Thank you for inspiring me. This world would be a dark place for me without you. I'm so glad I'm in my life. :P

@funbobby51, @cicisaja, @rentmoney, @headchange, and @denmarkguy, great job placing in the Top 10! It's not an easy place to get to, but you did the work to make it. I'm proud of all of you because I know the work that it takes to get here. You have done well. Now let's do it again this week!

Thanks to everyone for making this group a lot of fun. It's nice to see you all out there commenting and adding value to the Steem blockchain. One of these days the price is going to pop and all the hard work that we've put in now is going to pay off handsomely. At least that's the hope.

Note: Not investment advice. Do your own research. Also, fly your own kite. Mind your own shoelaces. And never buy a rooster.

Was this comment drafted prior to the post? Epic! :D

My pleasure on the prize, and thanks for spotting that I scored well this week! (With the help of a few tables of data! ;) )

One of these days the price is going to pop and all the hard work that we've put in now is going to pay off handsomely.

Yes. This will happen. The people here deserve all that they receive too.

Thank you! (especially for the Rooster tip!)

I could see how you would think so, but no. I'm just up way too freaking early!

Once I started going I just kept rolling, so it ended up being a little longer than I first anticipated.

Yeah, if you're posting those replies to people with all their scores, you could get a few points for that.

I'm looking forward to when Steem price pops, but enjoying the low prices to acquire more Steem more easily.

You're welcome! Although the rooster tip is also self-serving. I don't like them as neighbors. ;)

Ahh I see!

2:30 pm here, I've not done an awful lot today so far, but gifting STEEM is a grand way to start proceedings :)

If you have a little fiat, it does look like the time of the year to be buying a little. I'm very confident that at some point in the future we will see multiples of the current price.

Good luck!

It's much earlier for me. The day hasn't even started yet. Ugh. At least it's Sunday and I can take a nap later.

Gifting and receiving steem are both great activities for any time of day!

I'm going to try to get money together for another crypto buy. I just tend to spend my money on silver when I get more of it. Ha ha

Damn precious metals! I've got a few kilo's of that one, and some shares in a bottom draw which hopefully will see profit before I'm gone!

Right?! They take all the money. It's a good problem to have though.

some shares in a bottom draw

Is that a salvage diving operation?

Locked away where I don't have to see them until something happens!

Hi there, thanks for the mention. looks like you when it comes to the hard work you know about that first hand. Congratulations on a great score!
Now about that "let's do it again" part. That is all well and good but I think maybe a nap is order first. Then again this is a good time to get a jump on next round.
Good luck to you and happy Steeming.

You're welcome! I like encouraging people to keep going. It makes things more interesting when the competition is fierce here.

Now about that "let's do it again" part. That is all well and good but I think maybe a nap is order first.

The day hasn't officially started for me yet and I'm already thinking about taking a nap. Actually, I might just do that right now. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement to take this step.

Have fun getting a jump on the next round while I'm sleeping. ;)

Long naps are highly encouraged and have been proven great for productivity. The more you nap the higher you will probably score.
I will let you know if I learn any more helpful tips along the way ๐Ÿ˜‡

That was a great tip! Thank you. I'm feeling more productive already. :D

Oh my goodness๐Ÿ˜ฒ you really don't need a rooster pecking on your head to type this comment๐Ÿ‘ just as long as my post ๐Ÿ˜‚ fiuhh.. oohh I'm a bit jealous on your ability.

Thank you @themanwithnoname.. I think I need to learn how to do a smart work like you do instead of hard work onlyโ˜บ

I'd rather have a super power where all roosters are forced to stay at least 3 miles away from me. That would be excellent.

Long comments don't necessarily mean greater rewards. They do help in the League, but it's important to know how to write engaging posts too. The length of the comments isn't everything.

I'm not exactly sure how I'm working smarter, but if I have inspired you to improve yourself in some way, then good for you for seeking to do better! I hope you succeed.

And another rooster is winning the world cup trophy ๐Ÿ˜ they've make someone rich too.

Thank you @themanwithnoname. I have slowed right down this weekend and, with the heat, and exhaustion from looking after the grandkids for two days it's hard to imagine winding myself up again. But let's see . . .

I love your thanks for yourself. Brilliant! ๐Ÿ˜

Congratulations on being in the top ten again.

You're welcome! You earned it. You are one of the most consistent engagers, even when you're busy.

I'll bet you'll get right back into things. Although if you need to take a break, enjoy it. You don't want to get burned out.

I love your thanks for yourself. Brilliant! ๐Ÿ˜

Glad you liked that. I saw an opportunity, and I took it.

Thanks @themanwithnoname โ€” slightly "surreal" for me; I've been an active curator/interactor here since I started 18 months ago, and I've been following Asher's leagues for some time โ€” one of the best initiatives on Steemit, especially for retention โ€” but it didn't occur to me to actually add my name here till about a week ago.

Well, I'm glad you did! It's nice to have new people enter the competition. Sometimes people drop off, but like you said, those who stay in the League are much more likely to stay on Steemit.

Glad to have you!

howdy today @themanwithnoname! if I had half your writing talent I would have twice the numbers! Thanks so much for all the conversations and for keeping so many of us entertained.
This is probably the best "thank you" comment I've ever read! keep up the good work.

Aww, thanks, that's nice of you to say. I'm a talker, so writing is just clicking on the keyboard until those thoughts come out. Fortunately, that also helps me keep from saying some stupid things. I say a lot though, so not all of it gets filtered out.

I'm glad I help keep you entertained. :)

yes sir! hey, what time are you going to the LCS tomorrow? or should I just ask when they open?

The closer coin store is the one I like going to. They have a wider selection of generic rounds than the other one. They are closed Sunday and Monday, so I'll have to wait until Tuesday to get my fix... unless I want to go to the other coin store. All I would be buying there is either rounds I already have, or Constitutional silver. That's not a terrible idea though, so we'll see. Sometimes when the price drops, people go all out and buy all the stock they have of silver quarters and dimes. It's funny though, because on $1,000 face value, they only save maybe ten bucks or something. It's not a ton, but it's enough for some people.

well if you go to the store which is farther away then that is true Stakitus affecting you, that would be a true symptom right there, a dead giveaway. So let us know what you do. This is a dumb question but Constitutional silver is just older legal tender?

Yes, Constitutional silver are the silver quarters and dimes.

It's not as easy as saying that if I am willing to drive farther that I truly have Stakitus. It's complicated. If you're hungry, but the only two places are one that is closer that you like and one that is farther away, but isn't good... you can't say that you're not hungry just because you won't drive to the farther one. If it's not going to satisfy you, then there might not be a reason for going. So even in my current state, I know that the other store would sate my current cravings. Therefore, I hold off until such time as the closer store opens. :)

howdy today Blondie! yes sir you are right, that is much more complicated than it seems at first glance. thank you for helping me understand that better!

That's a very impressive comment, in and of itself an essay!

Seems like you might be one who could soon be challenging for top spot!

=^..^=

Ha ha, thanks. Once the comment started, it couldn't be stopped. I was going to win an Oscar once, but they knew I give long acceptance speeches, so they gave it to someone else. Oh, well. Be true to yourself, right? :D

Oh, absolutely! ALWAYS be true to yourself!

=^..^=

That makes me think of Gilligan's Island. Ha ha.

Thank you @themanwithnoname! And congratulations to yu as well :) Nice job...and nice comment here too buddy :)

Oh, you're welcome! You have been working hard all over the place and a lot that you do doesn't even show up in the stats, so you earned it.

I was awake and ended up going for it once I started. It's funny, that was written today, but it feels like it was at least a few days ago. It's been a long day.

Thank you @themanwithnoname . I am one of those "behind the scenes" types ๐Ÿ˜…

I was awake this morning early and on steemit by 7 am. Even though I was out for a while with Brian today, being back on here now...it all seems like a long day too. I may call it early tonight!๐Ÿ˜…

I was up very early (for me) on Sunday. It seemed like it was at least two days in length because of how many hours I was awake. I also have noisy neighbors, so I don't sleep well. Hopefully one day they'll be quiet. :)

Enjoy your early night!

Congratulations on fifth place this week, and thanks for the mention. Being edged out by someone has become a common occurrence of late, as well as being left behind in the dust by those in the Top 3. It's a minor miracle to be where I am, given what @janton and @lynncoyle1 managed to do. With those two revved up, it's harder to get back in the race.

That's quite the tribute you gave to yourself, by the way. I like it when I find people who are not full of self-loathing. It's not a very inspiring attribute. So, thank you for sharing the very kind words you had for yourself. You should be very happy and content with it and with yourself. :)

It seems like you've been getting enough competition that maybe you could start getting rewards again and potentially unthrone Janton. I'm just saying.

Ha ha, I just started thinking of things I could say to myself and then wrote them down. I don't do all of them as well as I could, but it's important to have a goal to work towards. I do like myself though. And that's important too.

hahaha I thought it was very funny!

and yay, Glen's going to overthrow the reigning king :)

Now, hold on here. I'm not even officially back in the hunt yet. I'm not sure where Asher has been today, but I haven't seen him answering yet. I'm sure he will soon, but until then, I'm still out.

And then, I've got a lot more comments to right than I've been able to muster in any of the time I've been here if I'm coming close to his 47,000 points. He's simply been running away with it the last couple of weeks. :)

Too late @glenalbrethsen!! You don't get to back out now ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Well, Asher knows now, so I'm on the board. I guess we'll see what happens. :)

I'm already behind where I wanted to be in everything, so we'll see whether or not I can make it up from here. I hate having lousy starts.

I feel exactly the same this week @glenalbrethsen ! I've started to take Sunday off after I see Asher's post. Then Brian had a few bad days, and suddenly it's Thursday! Ack! I'm so far behind right now and hate that feeling.

Yes, it certainly is. I've never had much of a problem liking myself, either. I haven't always been happy with my accomplishments, or my efforts, but hey, you've only got one you, so what you gonna do? Forgive yourself, of course.

I'm glad you said potential. He's been setting a very high bar, especially the last two weeks. I think he's planning to do some yard work, though, so hopefully that will mean he has to slow down some of his onslaught here, because, dudeโ€”there's no way I keep up with any of that. :)

That's good you like yourself. I haven't always been satisfied with my achievements either, but we have to press on anyways. I tend to have unrealistic expectations of myself sometimes, so it's important to give myself credit for doing what I can. If I don't have control over something, I can' hold myself responsible for its actions or results.

I believe in you. You've put up some very high scores, and I think you can do it again. This is your week!

I've put up one score in the 40,000s that janton just blew by. Aside from that, I've made it into the 30,000s a few times. I don't think that's going to cut it. Got to figure out how to increase my comments like the rest of you all without losing CL in the process.

I used to be a perfectionist. Talk about unreal expectations. Fortunately, I gave it up for an attitude that's much more healthy. I also have an issue with procrastination. I haven't totally given that up yet. Apparently, I'm trying to perfect it. :)

As you say, though, it's important to set reasonable expectations and then go about exceeding them as much as you can, increasing them as you go rather than going for it all at once. Inevitably, even some of the easiest seeming of tasks will end up being not so easy.

I saw that you had about 10,000 more in comment length than he did, but he had almost 1,000 comments overall. I have been doing a mix of long and short comments and that seems to be working. I'm not sure how the factors play off each other, but if they do then having CL high, but C low won't help as much. It would make more sense to have them both medium. I don't know though. I don't know how ASher does the equation. It would be interesting to see though! Although I doubt he'd share that with everyone. As it is there's an air of mystery around it. If people knew the formula, it would make it more calculating rather than engaging.

I used to be a perfectionist.

I did too! Maybe I still am. I had to give it up as well and instead aim for excellence. That's a much more easily obtained goal. Perfection can never be reached. Excellence means that you put in the time and effort, you work well and do your best, and if that's all you can do... then you move on. That's it. Don't beat yourself up or punish yourself for falling short of perfection. It's still great! Be pleased with that. Well, that's what I learned.

I'm trying to perfect (procrastination).

Ha ha!

re: commenting vs. CL

There's definitely a ratio involved. Since none of us know the formula (and I'm in agreement, I'd rather we didn't, so we could spend our time engaging rather than strategizing), all we're left with is observations. To my way of thinking, CL is fairly heavily weighted, until it's going up against similar CL, but with over four times the comments. :) That's worth a bunch more points. And it should be.

I'm also guessing that the lower depth replies have a pretty solid impact, too. What doesn't have as much impact is everything to the right of CL.

I've been trying a mix of comments, too. Long and longer. :)

You guys are both inspiring and "off the planet" at the same time.... I'm hoping to just get as far as 10,000 points one of these weeks!

What seems most impressive about our friend @janton is perhaps that it looks like a lot of the comments he leaves leads to long conversations with posters... compare the almost 1000 comments with 600+ "depth" comments and votes being on just 46 unique accounts.

Just trying to learn some of the "trade secrets" here, all in good humor!

=^..^=

The not so secret trade secrets? :) Comment a lot, keep the replies going, and let the CL add up. That's basically it, from what I can tell. I just can't keep the first two going very much so I go for complete answers and see what happens.

Lately, it's not been enough, so I've got to do something more.

Well, thanks for thinking of me as inspiring. That's very kind. I'm really just trying to go about my business and figure out how best to work here without getting too into the weeds with all of the things I could do and could be doing.

Oh Glen, we both know that you are capable of coming in first again! Like me, I think you're neck was tired on constantly on the swivel, watching your back haha

And I can't believe I did not mention @themanwithoname's personal tribute.

I'm so glad I'm in my life.

me too :)

Well, I hope it's totally plausible, since I've decided to throw back in. I hope Asher sees my comment, anyway. :). I'm not going to be competing with 900-plus comments and nearly 200,000 in CL, though. If that's what janton's going to be doing each week, holy cow! That's an awesome amount of work right there.

No Name did kind of sneak in the tribute. He could have been a little more subtle, but it's go big or go home when he's talking about himself. :)

That's why I was perfectly happy with second place @glenalbrethsen! There's no way I'm going to even try to beat those numbers!!

hahaha go big or go home! We say that all the time here ๐Ÿ˜…

Well, I'm hoping there is no way to beat those numbers. At least not consistently. Which means not even janton. But, he might be going for them, so we might all be holding onto our hats or bowing down to his awesomeness again. We'll see.

I know it always feels better if you can beat someone that you do it when they're at full strength, then when they're having a down week. So, while it means a lot of work, I'm kind of hoping he makes another run at it. :)

@glenalbrethsen, he told me that he wants to hit 1000 ๐Ÿ˜Ž I guess we'll see on Sunday!

So much for taking the week off. That's what he told me last week. He had some yard work to do. :) That was before I announced I was getting back into the prizes. I don't think that made him change his mind, though. I think he came so close to 1000 comments last week that he really wants to get there this week. More power to him. I couldn't do it, and I'm not sure if I need or want to. I do need to do more than what I've been doing, that I know. And I need to get further out on the blockchain again, too. :)

I realized after reading the your first comment that I was going to be commenting on old material, so rather than responding to @lynncoyle1's comment and then yours, I'll just come here.

I've decided to throw back in.

YAY! I'm glad you're going to be in it to win it again. I think it was very generous of you to give up rewards for the time you did. I think the mission of getting other people fired up was accomplished and I look forward to seeing your results this coming week!

You know how things go, sometimes people have down weeks in the competition and you may be able to take the crown without having to do quite that much. You never really know.

Ha ha, I'm glad you two were amused by my tribute to myself. I just copied the list from Asher's post and then started congratulating people. I got to my name, and I figured "why not?"! Once I started going, I figured exactly what you said, Glen, "go big or go home."

I'm not normally in the business of self-aggrandizement, but I figured I could make an exception. :P

Thank you for all the time you put into a post like this @abh12345. I don't know how well you have it "automated" by now, but I can't imagine you can "whip it out" in a few minutes. I appreciate it!

Having just joined, I was surprised to find myself on this list.

" "Must not have leased or delegated Steem Power in the last 14 days"

But, I recently delegated to @pifc, organized by @thdarkhorse. So, not sure when I might be on it again.

And you "lead by example," placing high up on the list. I like that!

For future reference, here are a couple of thoughts:

  1. Ever thought about how to "measure" the quality of the curating? Given the emphasis in our Steem Community of "quality over quantity?" I don't know what this would take, but maybe "automation" from something like what I recently experienced with @trufflepig. I wrote a light-hearted reply (to a bot?! ๐Ÿ˜‰), but very interested to see what work like what @smcaterpillar is doing here will become in the future.

  2. As a quantitative measure, how about the time to curate? Like from the time you click "Reply" to the time you click "Post." I don't know if that is possible, but would likely yield very interesting results.

Thanks again for your efforts on this @abh12345. Off to do a little more "curating" ...

Thanks @roleerob

As much as I'd like to whip it out minutes, it's 10 minutes alone to issue the prizes and a few hours for the post, even thought a good amount of the text is similar.

The Engagement league is not related to delegations and so no worries there. To
Be listed in the top 10 pleases me more than I can state, I do put the hours in to show it's possible, whatever your 'status' may be.

I'm looking at more measures to quantify genuine engagement, look out for those :)

howdy there @abh12345! first of all congratulations on your excellent placement this week and for making this contest work!

Congratulations to the beautiful and gracious @lynncoyle1 and @gillianpearce who continue to compete at the highest levels inspite of personal events taking time away from Steemit.

Congratulations to the not so beautiful @themanwithnoname, @glenalbrethsen, @funbobby51 and @smithlabs for their strong finishes with smithlabs jumping way up into the top ten, great job!

And look at @headchange in the top ten! I tried to warn ya'll about her, she's a force to be reckoned with and exemplifies what this platform should be in terms of encouraging and helping others to succeed, she is amazing!
and look at @cicisaja! what? where did she come from? lol. great job!
also @rentmoney and @denmarkguy, I don't remember where they were at last week but great job this week!

I also wanted to encourage you all because I feel like I'm very low on the writing ability scale..@glenalbrethsen, @headchange, @lynncoyle1, @themanwithnoname and probably everyone else in the top 20 are far more skilled writers than I am but if you just keep plugging away you can make something good happen, so don't give up.

and last but certainly not least thank you SO much to @curie for sponsoring this, you are helping so many people! God bless you!

Congratulations @janton; you seem to really have this whole curation thing well dialed in!

I appreciate the shoutout โ€” I was actually "nowhere" last week; but I have been following and supporting Asher's efforts for a while; this is one of the best initiatives on Steemit as far as building engagement and retention. And I'm all for that!

I guess I am somewhat of a "long-termer" around Steemit; started plugging away at it in January 2017 and have been "preaching" engagement and interaction as the key to Steemit success, ever since... keeping after it through 7-cent Steem as well as 7-dollar Steem. Always makes me happy to others grabbing that baton and running with it; I happen to believe "engagement" will do more to ensure this platform's long term solidity than pretty much anything else.

Communities are built by people, not by code and gimmicks!

Look forward to seeing you "knock it out of the park" again, next week!

yes sir.."long termer" I'd say! one of the Grandfathers of Steemit! lol. so at one time Steem was priced at 7 cents? I had no idea, that's pretty remarkable.
well sir I don't know if I'll be hitting it out of the park next week, my plans were to step back and get work done on our property but then when I saw how close I was to having 1,000 comments I'm thinking.."man I'd like to break 1,000!" so we'll see.

But you..what place did you come in last week? out of the top 20? and then boom! you're in the top 10?! that's pretty fearsome right there.
thank you sir I hope we can talk more.

But you..what place did you come in last week? out of the top 20? and then boom!

I just had never asked Asher to add my name to the list... so that's what I meant by "nowhere." But I got curious to see where my pretty-much-normal activity level stacked up in the general realm of things. So that's how I ended up here.

Also, a lot of my usual "circle" had slowed down or vanished completely due to the slide in the price of Steem, so I'm scouting for some fresh faces to interact with!

Your commenting prowess... that's just "mind blown" to me. Even when we had a site-wide "Community Engagement Challenge" in the fall of 2017, I don't think I got above 700... and that was over TEN days, not a week. Hats off to you, sir!

thank you for your kind words but from what I can see of your writing and posts you and genuine writers and authors like @glenalbrethsen, @themanwithnoname and many others put me to shame in content and comment length so I have to do a large volume of comments because most of them are 2 sentences long! lol.

which should give non-writers encouragement because if they work hard they can achieve something.
like me, I'm not really a writer, blogger or author, I'm just stubborn!

Thank you so much @janton for your kind words and encouragement. That almost makes up for you picking on me all week... almost ๐Ÿ˜ You know I love you keep on typing away there dude. Those fingers gotta wear out sometime or other.

lol! you are so welcome my friend. But the way I remember it..I was the one being picked on!
As far as my fingers go, you have a long wait if you think they're going to wear out, they're bionic!
God bless you @headchange!

Thank you for the congratulations @janton. Same back to you. I'm off to bed. Feeling as tired as tired can be. ๐Ÿ’ค ๐Ÿ’ค ๐Ÿ’ค

God bless you @gillianpearce!

Thank you @janton๐Ÿ˜‰ I've been here for a month now since you're on the top until now, but it was just yesterday I made a way to your blog and you got my respect๐Ÿ‘โœŒ you're just a handsome social butterfly that made steemit not boring to stay in๐Ÿ˜‚ glad that I meet so many gorgeous fingers owner through this league๐Ÿ˜‰ keep your fingers healthy๐Ÿ‘‹

well...thank you Ma'am I appreciate all the kind words. You just keep listening to smart, capable people like @headchange and you will continue to improve and gain traction and followers! You keep YOUR fingers healthy too! God bless you!

I can't say I've ever been called beautiful, so not so beautiful is very appropriate. Your kind words are appreciated, though I keep telling you, you're underselling yourself. I don't think that's the Texas way, is it? Everything's larger than life there, right? I suppose there's probably a level of humility involved, though, so I'll cut you some slack. This time. :)

Congratulations to a fifth straight win (record) and for setting at least one more (number of second level replies) if not two (number of total comments). That's at least 138 comments a day, if you commented 7 days last week. Pretty amazing feats. You commented more in two days on average than I managed for the entire week.

Carry on. Onward and upward.

lol! well sir, I follow the Cowboy Code concerning modesty!
yes, lots of stuff is bigger in Texas including some egos but we haven't experienced too much of that on the local level.

But Glen you typed more words than I did so those were some massive comments! That's a true gift. When you and noname get talking I see pages written! So both of ya are amazingly gifted in that area!
I don't know if I'm going for it again, but I'm tempted to try for that 1,000 comment mark! thank you sir!

Thank you @janton! You did an amazing job again this past week!!! :)

howdy there @lynncoyle1! well ..you had a big part in that so thank you. do you realize how many times you wrote to me and I was forced to answer you? my god girl, I didn't think you were ever going to leave me alone! but now I'm glad you did that so thank you!

hahahaha I think it's the other way around!!! You were a regular pain in my behind....and then you also came in first place!!! geesh! :)

well...I didn't want you to get bored.. and I didn't want you to get a big head neither so I had to do my duty to keep you on track. And look at you! I succeeded! lol.

Oh I've got your number @janton! I like for you to keep thinking that you are the puppet master haha

ย 6 years agoย (edited)

rats..I never thought of that!
women are dangerous.

haha yes we can be :)

Honestly, I'm not a game player in my real life, and just totally messing around with your here. Those women scare me too :)

Oh man it was a long shot and I knew that my ranking would be way down but I am happy to see the regulars like @glenalbrethsen, @lynncoyle1 and the rest of the folks in the top 10!

I seem to slide further and further and I am sad at how I have not been that active lately and I know it is my own fault because I have been preoccupied with playing Guild Wars 2!!!

There was a fluke a couple weeks that I got in but it has been hard lately!

I still want to say how important engagement is in the platform and will continue to support and thank you Asher for what you are doing!

No worries, Steem will be here when the Guild Wars are over ๐Ÿ˜

I'm glad to hear of other interests, and I think you'll be back with a bang when the time comes!

Thank you Mave!

Now quit gaming and get back to work :)

Hey, @maverickinvictus. Thanks for the mention. Glad to hear your having fun with your game. Hopefully, though, it's not taking over your work and family life, thought it sounds from what you've said elsewhere, it very well might be. :)

At any rate, finishing where you did is still an indication of your abilities and your desires. I'm glad you're continuing to plug away in some capacity.

Lordie, lordie, @MaverickInvictus!

You are wayyyyy up there still! I HAD to scroll back up after reading your comment to check because I remembered you being up very close to the usual crazy comment 'book' producers.

You ARE right up there. Enjoy your game and your short cooling out period. You serve so many different communities here on Steemit in many different ways.

Plz don't ever downplay the engagement that you do comment-wise, because you do so much more 'in person' engagement on discord etc every single day that many never ever see, much less are able to measure, 'out here'.

You are AWESOME and you inspire so many to keep plugging away!!!

This comment was made from https://ulogs.org

@janton Congrats buddy. I see your name up there and it puts a smile on my face. I enjoy the engagement we have and thats a bonus to me.

@lynncoyle1. A day without you is a day without sunshine my freind

@glenalbrethsen your comments are food for thought.

@gillianpearce I enjoy your comments and look forward to more

@abh12345 I don't know who you are .You new here ? LOL

:P ROFL well done !!!

This is getting to long so let me just say Congrats and thank you ALL. You inspire my and enrich my life.

Thank you @wolfhart. Have a great week! ๐Ÿ˜Š

You too Gillian. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks @wolfhart, strange to see me in the top 10 huh ๐Ÿ˜

Not so much strange, because I have a good idea on all you do and commenting for you is a balancing act with all the rest of the things on your plate.
๐Ÿ‘

Hey, @wolfhart! Thanks for the mention. I'm glad I'm providing something in my comments. A lot of typing for nothing if I weren't. :)

For a second there, I thought you were giving No Name a really poignant tribute, then I realized you were using his words verbatim. :)

Congratulations on your finish and for all your contributions to the blockchain. You make this place worthwhile and much better because of your presence.

Thank you, that was nice of you to say
@themanwithnoname comment was great that he wrote. It made me smile. It was also suppose to be in italics. ( didn't work)

I am trying to keep up with the standards that you guys set. :)

awww thank you @wolfhart! Your comment to Asher made me legit LOL :)

I forgot to say " welcome to steemit" LOL
He brings up a lot of good point in his posts. I for one listen carefully to them .

Iโ€™m really glad to see denmarkguy finally join in! He creates blogs that are enjoyable to comment on and he takes the time when he can to write amazing replies back as well! I recall quite a few months back talking about Engagement Leagues with him. Glad to see he found the time to sign up and join in on this fun!

Have an amazing week everyone see you in the next one!

Agreed and same here ๐Ÿ˜

I was happy to see him sign up and suspected the results to be good. I didn't know @denmarkguy is a not a self-voter though - nice!

I'm slow on the uptake, I confess... and I guess there was also a slight element of "I'm already an established curator" that made me feel like a bit of an impostor... but this is fun!

As for the famous "self-voting" hot potato, when that debate first showed up in force (I guess slightly after HF.19) I repeatedly pitched the argument โ€” and this is just my own philosophy and perception โ€” that self-voting is akin to being an author who publishes a book... and then runs down to the bookstore and buys lots of copies to artificially inflate the public appearance of "how well" the book is selling. But I am also up-front in admitting that I have some old personal moral/philosophical issues there, revolving around "fair play" and the core notion that "if what you do can't stand on its own, why the f*ck are you even involved?"

Mini rant. Sorry.

Anyway, glad to be here!

Thanks @enjar; I do remember that and I actually started following these reports weekly... but for whatever reason (forgetfulness, laziness?) never actually added my name till about a week ago.

Great job here Asher... Even though I've been tied up for the last 2 weeks and still catching up, I have been paying attention... Awesome to see so many familiar names, and omgosh @janton is lighting it up! Keep it up and soon you will be putting the big king @glenalbrethsen into permanent retirement!

I look forward to being back in full force soon! :)

Big king? Me? Janton pretty much fits that bill now. However, he's done the opposite and brought me out of what you're calling retirement. Which means I'm back in the running for the prizes as of this week. We'll see how this goes.

I've been wondering what's been going on. This must be your job bogging you down? If so, it's probably worth paying attention to that for the last two weeks. It will be good to have you back and running, though, whenever that happens.

It's not the same without you stirring up or starting something. :)

@glenalbrethsen ... you are the Big King... No doubt about it! Now that doesn't mean that @janton can't become an even bigger King... But the bottom line is you have staked out your reputation already and when tales of this era are told, we will speak in terms of the "King Glen Days" ... And if @janton continues on this path, then you can hand him over your crown. Something tells me you will be back with some fire in your belly this week and I for one am glad to see it!

And that game really took a lot out of me... I'm pretty sure I would've won Asher's league if that counted for my replies. Not only that, but giving out cards one by one, creating questions, giving answers, upvoting, coordinating... it was more than I expected. I'm not complaining and very happy it was a success, but I was not ready for the amount of participation that it would have. I learned though and next one will be much better (from the fulfillment side for sure)

And while I was quiet, I was not away. I just didn't have the energy to start new convos while I was behind on the others. And thanks for the nice comment at the end, I missed you too :P

Game? Let's see, there was the world cup, but were you involved with that? I know you were setting up an exchange for steemmonsters, too. Is that what you were talking about? Anyway, sorry I'm lost but I missed something.

Now I'm wondering just how much more does janton have to do, poor guy, to take over things here. It seems to me he's already done that. That's funny, "King Glen Days." Right. Tales of this era will be filled with bidbots and flag wars and hopefully, how it all ended, STEEM grew up, and conquered the galaxy.

Well, it's good to know you were around, just not commenting on new conversations. I can't say I tried to start any with you, so I guess we're good there. :)

lol... It was the gigantic Minnow/Newbie Palooza for @newbiegames! We had over 1600 comments between 3 posts on it... Ended up giving out more than 200 sbds worth of prizes in total, so that was why it felt like the World Cup to me :P ...

And yes when the tales are told you will be the King that reigned through the "dark" days of bidbots and flag wards... but I think you will be know as Glen the Great for steering us away from that non-sense and keeping us engaged! That's how it works by the way... Just come up with a story and tell it enough times and pretty soon people will remember it just that way!

Glen the Great! I like it :)

ps... and @lynncoyle1 will get the title of Lynn the Lovable! She was the Queen just before you took the throne! ;)

Whoa Whoa Whoa...was the Queen? That is so terribly past tense! How about the Lovable Queen Lynn? :)

@lynncoyle1 lol... It was a typo of course... The Queen "Lynn The Lovable" has been off fighting dragons and protecting her kingdom while Glen The Great and Janton The Joyous have been having an internal bloodfeud and destroying their armies.

hahaha @davemccoy, you've been spending way too much time with steemmonsters ๐Ÿ˜Ž

However, he's done the opposite and brought me out of what you're calling retirement.

Hmm hmmmm!!! I was wondering how long it would take! Glad to have you 'back', @glenalbrethsen!!!

Popcorn, I tell you. That's the one make believe grocery item I've been having more of since joining this League of yours, @abh12345! ;)

This comment was made from https://ulogs.org

Hey, @angelacs. Thank you, it's good to be 'back' as you put it. I really think you should be consuming real popcorn, though. :)

I don't know just how watchable, let alone popcorn worthy this is all going to be, but I like the idea of it, anyway. It's never dull around here. :)

Don't worry Dave, the 'minnow palooza' was a grand effort and likely you've needed a little recovery time after that.

As Glen says, he's back in the prize hunt! And he's also not wrong here!:

It's not the same without you stirring up or starting something. :)

@abh12345 awww thanks Asher! I'm back! So happy to be stirring things up a bit now and causing a little mischief! ;)

I think @davemccoy should be called "Dave the pot-stirrer" :)

Be the feathers or rustle them ๐Ÿ˜

hahaha @abh12345, I've never hear of that before, but it's definitely something I'm going to remember ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Nice to see you here @davemccoy... the whole minnowpalooza event was awesome; I ended up being a lot less present than expected, often because I just could get my aging laptop to load all those many hundreds of comments. A great initiative, nonetheless!

=^..^=

@curatorcat lol... yes it was getting to me too... my machine would just start scrolling for no reason... Then I would have to figure out where I had been last :P ... It was somethign I will definitely plan for in the future :D

Yaaayyy... I am back๐Ÿ˜‰ and more respect to @janton and @lynncoyle1 too.. @headchange, @tryskele @bashadow, @themanwithnoname whoaa.. congratulations everyone ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
What a week๐Ÿ˜… need to take my fingers for treatment to keep my place on the first tabels.

Thank you @abh12345 and everyone who help me out to overcome my over-reaction for a little unnecessary flag before. Wish you all the best!

Welcome back in the top ten of the league @cicisaja, I hope to get back there myself.

Are you busy with something? Didn't see you much around last week.. hope that everything is fine and you'll back to where you supposed to be.

Just a few nice weather days up here, last two days was rain, so I got a little bit more done then, but sunday through wednesday were pretty days, so did not get as much time on line as normal. Summer is short in Alaska, and we get a bit of rain, so on those sunny days, got go soak up some vitamin D.

So you're busy to absorp the free Vitamin D right from its source๐Ÿ˜‰ need to check out your post about this if you create one ๐Ÿ˜ that must be fun. Need to ask you later about stemmmonster too, I am new but I think it'll be easier to learn from you๐Ÿ˜Š

Loading...

We cross posted lolo I got a flag on my post as well. Don't worry we all know you do a great job.

Yes I did too. I think related to this https://steemit.com/flag/@guiltyparties/the-flag-ring but i don't think we have to worry :)

Well done @cicisaja :)

Don't worry about the flags, they are known and being dealt with: https://steemit.com/flag/@guiltyparties/the-flag-ring

Steem on!

I think there's a big jealousy on your league @abh12345 ๐Ÿ˜‚ see the "steem defense league" against your no self-vote rewards๐Ÿ˜„ but they've been dealt with the wrong community.

I'm going to power up my account, so i can take care of them myself in the future.

What a strange bunch they are!

Hopefully they will not have any power behind their down-votes in future.

Thank you! And congratulations to you as well. You're doing well. It's challenging to place near the top so you're obviously working hard. Keep at it. :)

It is hard... but what's a contest if there's nothing challenging at all. The hardest part of this challenge is to maintain the engagement with others, lucky me that I've been in with so many great people with exceptional skill on produce encouraging words๐Ÿ˜Š like you.

what's a contest if there's nothing challenging at all

It's called a Steemit Color Challenge. Ha ha ha.

I'm glad you've found the community to be warm and welcoming. I have as well. Have a great week!

It's called a Steemit Color Challenge. Ha ha ha

Buahahahaha.. ROFL.. lucky that I've survived from its trap๐Ÿ˜ have a great week to you too

hi ... how are you friends? you are also happy to join the comment in this contest huh? hopefully you want to be our friend and we are sharing the culture more fun in this steemit. because steemit places to bring new friends from outside the area and we can communicate via language translate, it's easy right? friendship in steemit is very pleasant. friendship greetings from @ fauzan11. I am a caricature and pantun maker, tomorrow I post a caricature post into this steemit if you like to come to my blog. thank you

Congratulations @cicisaja! What an awesome week you had :)

I'm glad you're over your flag business too :) It happened to me and so many others; really means nothing, but I think you figured that out by now :)

Yes @lynncoyle1, i just found out that @el-nailul got his post flagged too. So it's just nothing to worry about now.

Thank you for your support๐Ÿ˜‰ I on the right track with the right community.

You're welcome @cicisaja! I'm glad we were all able to help put you at ease ๐Ÿ˜…

Well, @abh12345. I've been thinking.

This is the fifth straight week that @janton has taken first prize. From what I can tell of the most recent statistics you've been keeping, where you spell out more than just the points, janton not only holds the record for number of consecutive wins, but he disputably lays claim to the number of total comments in a weekโ€”if not first, he's second. He definitely has the highest number of second level comments, and he just set the record for the highest overall point total since you went to the new system.

The only thing he doesn't hold as far as commenting is concerned is total CL for a week, but it wouldn't take much for him to exceed that, too.

What I've been thinking is, it's time for me to get back into the prize money. My stipulations for remaining out revolved around someone having the time. Janton has definitely put in the time, and he's also done an amazing amount of things with it.

So, if you would kindly put me back on the prize list, I would greatly appreciate it. I also have a message in for you on Discord when you have the chance to discuss it.

Thank you very much to @curie for sponsoring the leagues and for all that you all do.

Congratulations to all those who placed in the Top 10, plus those received bonuses for no upvotes. Very good. I'm looking forward to another week of posting and engaging, and I wish everyone a good week, too.

You've been thinking you say??!! It's about time, I say :)

Well, that's nice of you to say. :)

I kept thinking someone might be able to give janton a run for his money, but he kept ramping it up. I'm not even sure how it's possible to do the 500 comments in a week, let alone so close to 1000. I'm shaking my head. That's just amazing.

And then, he's managed to get enough CL into a comment to make it nearly to 200,000. It's a pretty big combination.

Anyway, I'm glad you're saying it's about time, although I was fully expecting it to go longer. But when he hits five in row, I guess it's time to see if I can do anything about it. :)

Hi Glen

Yes that's no problem at all, consider yourself back in the running for prizes :)

I'm still thinking about how to adjust the prize criteria, looking for a balance between encouraging/being fair/not putting people off.

Thanks again for your input and actions to let the prizes flow further :)

Hey, @abh12345.

For what it's worth, I think the main difference between the top Top 3, Top 10 and top 25 is the amount of time each one has on Steemit, and what they do with that time while they're here. Or maybe better said, what they do either on Steemit or on Discord, or wherever else they may be talking to and collaborating with Steemians.

The reason why I was stepping back was a concern that maybe by having as much time as I did, it would act as a deterrent. However, I don't know if that's even true after stepping away, though my being out did help some people get a little more. In reality, though, it was more or less the same people in the Top 5 taking turns.

We do have a different group of people manifesting in the Top 10 now than were there when I started 14-15 weeks ago, and those folks didn't just get there because of their own time and effort, but also because that of others changed, too. Things tend to wax and wane here as you can well attest to.

Encouraging folks to do a little more will only work if they're able to do it. At the same time, encouraging folks to do little more than what they are doing would seem to be a step backward. It's a balance I guess. In the end, though, if there's a desire to do more on Steemit, it's not going to happen through a lack of engagement. In reality, all of us need to be doing more if we want to reach more people and potentially gain a greater audience and reward on our posts.

Hi Glen, thanks for the detailed response.

As you know, I did have in mind that something needed tweaking, but as mentioned, I wasn't sure about what to do and where.

I certainly don't want to discourage, but also not give away STEEM for minimum effort.

I think I will add a column this weekend for starters, and see how that works. The scores will again not become comparable to the previous week, but that's the way it goes.

We have a good thing here, and so small changes along the way seems like the best approach.

Cheers!

I don't suppose you'd like to share what that column is going to include? :)

And, there goes my record keeping, too. Oh, well. :)

I'd like to try and measure more 'genuine engagement', and I wonder if this happens (like this conversation), further down the comment thread...

You mean below the 2 x you're already counting? Hmmmm. I guess that could be. I just wonder how many of us are actually getting that far down, and then, if we're doing that, can we be engaging with as many other people as we are now with the 2 x depth in place? Just the thought that pops into my head. Feel free to ignore it.

Another thought that pops into my head. When I first started you had a column for comments on other people's posts, or something like that, which got traded for the 2 x level. I wouldn't mind seeing that come back, personally, whatever it was, and still keep the 2 x level since you're talking about adding a column (which I guess I might be mistakenly thinking to mean keeping the rest of the columns and adding one moreโ€”if not, don't listen to what I just said about the additional column. :)

For what it's worth, I think the main difference between the top Top 3, Top 10 and top 25 is the amount of time each one has on Steemit, and what they do with that time while they're here.

@glenalbrethsen, I think that's an important piece of perspective for everyone in the leagues. Some of us are sporadic part timers... aside from creating a top level post (which can take a couple of hours, or more) I'm only on here "10 minutes here and 20 minutes there" in the course of a day. Sure, it adds up... on the other hand, I'd say a couple of days a week I may not check in more than just ONCE in the morning.

My point being, it's not reasonable and fair to compare that to someone who can basically sit at the keyboard 16 hours a day. Similarly, if I ever get into the top-25, it's not going to be a product of my "caring" more than I currently do, it's going to be because I had a couple of days off.

Thanks for bringing that up!

=^..^=

Yep. Not fair to compare. It's barely even fair to compare what some people can do in those 16 hours with what others manage to do with it. So, time is equal and it's not fair to compare, it holds that people with less time at some point aren't going to be able to accomplish as much. I know there are at least a few people who are able to do a lot in a very short period of time, but even they must be up around five to six hours a day, at minimum.

Popping on and off at ten to twenty minute intervals during the day would be very hard for me, so I can only imagine what's going on in the course of your day.

That said, I think the main idea behind the engagement league is engagement. The prizes are great, so is seeing how you measure up to yourself and others each week, but it's the engagement and I'd say the camaraderie that comes from engaging that are the main focus. The rest of it is nice, and helpful, too.

Then, too, we all have our own lives, and different situations. Not always, but most of the time we have control over our situations, even if we have to go back years and years to find the decision that put us where we are today. In my case, I've decided not to go back to work yet in order to make a go of this. If I can't make a go, then it looks like my final alternative is to go back to work because I've pretty much exhausted every other option I've had. And, my wife is done being the only one bringing home a living wage. :)

If that happens, my time here will be much more limited.

Thank you @abh1345.

Thank you @curie.

Thank you @glenalbrethsen for letting me take your third place prize.

Congratulations to all the prize winners.

I'm absolutely knackered and will shortly be going to be at a ridiculously early hour so this is the best acceptance speech I can muster up this week.

Keep on keeping on. ๐Ÿ˜

Good enough for me!

Well done Gillian, have a good week in sunny England ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Ta. Very muchly @abh12345. The only cool(er) place at the moment is the beach.

Hope you're having plenty of time hanging out on your lilo! ๐Ÿ˜

I'm doing my bit for the lilo lovers of the world ๐Ÿ˜

It's very needed @abh12345. If the local beach is anything to go by, lilo lovers have switched their allegiances to inflatable paddle boards in their droves.

The only lilos I've seen recently (and there have only been a couple) are being used as beach mats and not for their intended purpose. It's a sorry state of affairs.

Hey, @gillianpearce. Congratulations on the Top 3, regardless of what I did or didn't do. It's always good to be hanging around up there. I hope you got the rest you were seeking, because being knackered doesn't sound like fun at all. :) Especially if you're exhausted AND severely damaged. That would not be good.

Not severely damaged @glenalbrethsen and got to bed at a more reasonable hour yesterday so feeling less tired overall. Now I need to repeat the bedtime routine again tonight. ๐Ÿ˜

i.e. I need to be signing off NOW!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚
