Increase the price of fuel to solve environmental problem.

in #environment6 years ago (edited)

The best way to solve the world's environmental problem is to increase the price of fuel. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Many individuals claim that the most effective measure to tackle the environmental problem is to increase the price of petrol. While I accept that this policy is beneficial to some extent, I would argue that there are better solutions for this issue.

On the one hand, there are some reasons why this policy might help prevent environmental issues. Firstly, with the increasing price of fuel, commuters, especially car drivers, are likely to switch from their private vehicles to public transport, leading to a decline in gas emissions. This would contribute to a better environment, positively affecting citizens’ quality of living. Secondly, rising prices of petrol could have some detrimental effects on the production of some industries using oil and gas as main inputs. As a result, researchers and scientists around the world would put more time and effort into conducting cheaper and environmental friendly energy such as wind power and solar power, leading to a decrease in consumed fuel.

On the other hand, I believe that there are better methods to solve environmental problem. The first one is that the government should encourage people to use public transport rather than personal means of transport by launching campaigns to raise public awareness of the harmful effects of motorbikes and cars on the environment. Apart from that, it could be done by reducing the price and increasing the frequency of bushes and tubes to make it convenient for passengers. Furthermore, the authorities could discourage drivers from using their cars by introducing environmental fee, as in Vietnam, leading to a decline in exhaust fumes from cars.

In conclusion, while I accept that increasing price of petrol might help reduce environmental pollution, I believe that there are more effective methods to solve this issue.

There are a lot of adverse effect of raising fuel price that many people miss and ignore. Raising the price of fuel means the price of almost everything goes up, which means inflation, and increase in wages, and then people being able to afford the fuel again, so a dog chasing its tail syndrome. money would be better spent on education than subsidising those businesses priced out of operations due to increased fuel prices.

A dog chasing its tail syndrome. Money would be better spent on education than subsidising those businesses priced out of operations due to increased fuel prices.

It's true. I agreed. Education or health care is more worth subsidising. Apart from that, there are some other solutions to protecting the natural world from being polluted that I mentioned above should be considered.

Agreed. When gas prices went up to $5 a gallon several years ago—I live in Southern Cali—traffic was decidedly better. Air quality improved. There was a definite correlation, and most people in this area are just too lazy to stop driving around their gas-guzzling vehicles! Personally, I had to be pushed in order to make the switch. I finally donated my car back in December because it was breaking down and constantly requiring expensive fixes. Now I walk, take the subway or bus or do Lyft (the pool option if I'm not running late). Now, this is easier for me because I'm a writer who works from home, BUT I have to say that a lot of other people could probably figure out ways to get around without their vehicles. We have to do something! Cannot take these heatwaves anymore lol. And a bonus—I actually made a FRIEND during an Uber pool! A friend I've hung out with since! A lot can happen when you get out of your car. :-)

LOL. It's good to hear that you got a friend in the circumstance. In my opinion, it's better to have a flexible job to avoid enduring the traffic congestion. In Vietnam, the price of fuel may be a big deal, so I think it works if they increase petrol's price.

I have worked over 26 years in the oil and gas industry over here in Alberta Canada. The powers of the one world order have shut down Alberta and it's production of oil and gas. Alberta have a tremendous amount of oil and gas but our own liberal government directed by the inexperience political meat head Justin T. made a deal with Mr. Obama a couple of years ago to cut down production so the United States can be a super oil and gas selling country. The new fake tax ( carbon tax ) is putting people out of work. The air quality has always been clean here in Canada, air pollution has never been an issue . Tax is a tool to destroy our society. The less money you have the less freedom you will get. Why India , Russia ,China these real pollutants don't get punished? Adding tax to things don't solve any issues it just creates them. As I've said so many times we are living in a fake world...Do you really believe what the powers are telling you?

In our countyr, the price was drastically increased, dont know what might be the reason behind increasing the fuel price, its effecting the people of our country, now poeple are using their private vehicles. Its effecting the ruling party of our country, as they uncreased the fuel prices. But in one or the other way its beneficial to our environment.
