EOS vs. ETHEREUM which one is going to make the race?

in #eos6 years ago (edited)

With all the news and frenzy around EOS, with block producer candidates, a constitution taking shape and lots of governance discussions, i totally got Ethereum out of side. And after a very long time of silence as regards blockchain advancement, apparently there have been a few announcements!

Blockchain updates

This is a bit older, but Vitalik tweeted, "Sharding is coming" along with a link with to a first github repository:
https://www.ethnews.com/vitalik-buterin-sharding-is-coming
https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/991028977991991296

Then yesterday another big update on Casper - Proof of Stake Consensus was release:
http://telegra.ph/The-First-Version-of-Ethereums-Casper-Upgrade-Has-Been-Published-05-09

So are reports of Ethereums demise highly exaggerated?
The thing is if we take a closer look, although both news making bold statements, and refer to github updates, it's all more or less spec updates, early testversions which are to serve as proof of concepts at best. So both POW and Sharding will take a very long time before they will be stable andd production ready.

After the Byzantinum release last year, (my) expectations where really high, that ethereum will be a fast paces project, back then rumors where that Constatntinople (so Casper) would be released at the end of Q2/2018.
Taking a look at the current release plan, any date remains yet to announced, and the phrase "expected in 2018" now doesn't sound too reassuring:
https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/Releases

So honestly, these recent news don't sound to me like a big deal...

Now compare this to EOS!
Dawn 4.0 has already been released, and after some final polishing, the EOS Release candidate is expected by tomorrow:
https://stocksgazette.com/2018/05/05/exciting-times-for-eos-community-mainnet-is-near/

As most of you might know, the mainnet will launch shortly after June 1, and now over 116 Block producers are ready to be there at the launch: https://bp.eosgo.io

So whereas ETH might have a first mover advantage it seems to me as if this advantage is dwindeling quickly, and EOS mainnet will have features, we will wait for a longt time with Ethereum....

Governance

Moreover, there is now a first draft of EOS constiution which will handle most aspects of governance, included recovery of assets, arbitration about disputes, and the possibility to update governance any time. I wont go much into detail, if you are for details, take a look at some of my older posts:
https://busy.org/@conceptskip/eos-the-constitution-has-arrived
https://busy.org/@conceptskip/eos-part-2-of-constitution-articles

So here we have a really visionary system of governance in preparation, and what news do we have from Ethereum?
Community downvotes refund of $330 Million stuck due to the parity hack:
http://bitcoinist.com/ethereum-community-votes-330-million-parity-refund-request/

This is certainly the more severe problem of Ethereum, that it lacks a productive and explicit governance scheme, and for what ever reason, reasonable proposals are rejected for ideology and as long as we have such news, broad adoption is impossible. No serious business or rational user will ever accept such a risk for their participation.

So another, and maybe more important point for EOS. And I think after mainnet launch and a period of stabiliasation, with arbitration starting to work, EOS will quickly surpass Ethereum, not only for marketcap, but for wide spread usage as well.

Honestly i pity a bit Vitalik, who i believe is a real genius and who is stuck now with a POW establishment on one end and these code-is-law tinhats on thee other. And i came to better understand Dan's decision to leave earlier projects for new launches...

Do you think i am wrong in my conclusions? Let me know why!

There will be many platforms used for DApps, not just ETH or EOS.

Certainly there will be several platforms, i am aiming for the biggest one and for that, the main contestants are Eth and eos... Do you have other ones in mind?

EOS will be best in my opinion because it has most money for developing DApps but I think that Cardano, NEO, ONT, TRX and many more will also have lot of DApps.

Great post. Let's be honest, ETH and EOS have a ton of money. ETH has the advantage of being first and having a ton of real world experience. That said, AOL and Yahoo were in a similar position when Google came on the scene...and we all know how that turned out.

EOS has the advantage of learning from Ethereum's mistakes. It also seems a lot more nimble. It's being built with the idea of scaling and the ability to change/adapt with the times. I think EOS is going to be the front runner by a long shot.
