Episode 1 - Running the EOS Testnet

Sad - Feb 20.jpg

As mentioned in prior posts, I'm taking a stab at running a node on the EOS testnet. I'm creating posts to share my issues and experiences. I'm still a rookie in this field but hoping I can pick up this technology quick. The approach has been to dig in and see how far I can get without getting hung up on too many details. This has been my problem in past attempts with coding. A small snag takes all of my time and then I eventually give up. I feel like I made some process loading the software from github. I haven't worked with the terminal in a while but picking up the flow pretty quickly. It is easy to get accustomed to the nice user interfaces. Understanding the terminal commands is the main hurdle right now. Hoping to get a node running soon. Let me know if you have any suggestions or resources.

Hey @jjcali - Thanks for posting your programming progress and questions. I'll put together some tutorials on how I got the testnet working on the Dawn 2.0 version that could help you. I'll follow you and tag you when I post them. Sound good?

For now, keep reading (and re-reading) through the EOS Wiki on github:
https://github.com/EOSIO/eos/wiki

and the tutorials to get started.

https://github.com/EOSIO/eos/wiki/Tutorials

and look into getting the eosd daemon running first.

You can find me @powderskier and good luck

Hey @jjcali,
I just posted a tutorial on my steemit blog @powderskier for you.

An EOS.IO Developer's Notes - How To Publish A Contract to the EOS Public Testnet

I hope this helps you and keep up the programming! Be persistent, patient, and ask a lot of questions to become a solid EOS developer. You are one of the early people in the new distributed, digital movement so your time to shine will come. :)

Great information. Thanks for the help!!!!

Thanks for the links to the wiki and tutorials for EOS, I would love to get involved with this project but I am probably too much of a newbie. I have a lot of catching up to do. Following for any info you might share on getting testnet going.

@sighmanjestah, learn how to acquire the skills that you need to become an eosio developer and be curious, patient, stubborn, and driven. In time, you will be a master before you know it. :)

I'll be on the outlook for your next post after getting node running.. The downside is that you need a lot of hardware when running many nodes on a single host. Also the multiple nodes will contend with each other in terms of CPU cycles, limiting true concurrency, and also localhost network performance is much different from inter-host performance, even with very high speed lans.

Thanks for the info.

Congratulations @jjcali, this post is the forth most rewarded post (based on pending payouts) in the last 12 hours written by a Superuser account holder (accounts that hold between 1 and 10 Mega Vests). Great test of running a node on the EOS testnet! EOS will be huge in the future and will improve the service in the near future! We are looking at a $50+ price this year! Are you an investor in EOS and at what price did you invest??? I purchased most of my EOS at the $1.40 price level.

Nice I trade EOS on Binance trying to increase my stack as much as possible before June 1st if you wish to do the same please use my affiliate link
