Erasmus Experience, Episode 4: University Life in Heraklion, Crete (Turkish/ English)

Evet arkadaşlar,

Adaya ulaştıktan sonra Amoudara'da sıkıntılı kısa bir dönem geçirdim. Her şey yeni evime taşındıktan sonra rayına oturmaya başlamıştı. Böylece bende huzura kavuşmuştum. Artık üniversite hayatına konsantre olabilirdim. Hocalarla tanışmak için okula doğru yola koyulmuştum.

Eğer gittiğim tarihi göz önüne alırsak, Yunanistan çok büyük bir kriz yaşıyordu. Her yerde gösteriler, boykotlar, öğrenci hareketleri vardı.

İlk defa üniversiteye doğru hareket ettiğimde, bir çok afiş sokakları süslüyordu. Kampüse yaklaştıkça daha da artmıştı. Bölümün içine ilk adımımı attığımda duvarlarda sprey yazılamalar dikkatimi çekmişti. Ne yazdıkları hakkında bilgim olmamasına rağmen, hoşuma gidiyordu. Koridorlarda ilerledikçe daha çok yazılama görmeye başlamıştım.

Öğretmenlerin odalarını aramaya doğru giderken kantinin bulunduğu bölmeden geçmek zorunda kaldım. Ve o an bir çok öğrencinin pankart hazırladığını, kollektif bir çalışma ile kendi kantinlerini kurduklarını gördüm. Okulun kantininde fiyatlar yüksek olduğu için kendileri üretip, öğrencilerin yeme içme ihtiyaçlarını karşılıyorlardı. Kesinlikle belli bir ücreti yoktu kahvenin, suyun, tostun. Gönlünüzden geçerse belli bir ücreti kumbaraya atıyordunuz. Kahvenizi, tostunuzu da istediğiniz gibi yapabiliyordunuz. Aha tam hayalini kurduğum üniversite ortamı diye iç geçirdim:) Bu arada ses sistemi de vardı ve istedikleri parçaları Youtube'dan açabiliyorlardı. Kahvemi alıp bir süre hocaları ve derslerimi unutarak onları izleyerek geçirdim.

Bir kaç kişiyle sohbet etme fırsatım da oldu bu süre içerisinde. Bana kısaca neden pankart hazırladıklarını da anlattı. Bir çok arkadaşı gözaltına alınmış. Çünkü sınav olacakları zaman kendi aralarında demokratik bir oylama sistemiyle sınavı boykota karar vermişler. Hocalar da bu boykotu kabul etmeyince arkadaşları eylem kararı alıp, hocaları odalarına kilitlemişler. Evet yanlış duymadınız. Arkadaşlarının serbest bırakılması için ise eylem yapma kararı almışlar. Dipnot, eylem gerçekleştiği sırada merkezde Lion square denilen meydanda geziyordum ve ertesi gün arkadaşları serbest kalmıştı:)

Sohbet sona erdikten sonra, sırasıyla hocalarla görüşmeye gittim. Okulda ana dil Yunanca olduğu için laboratuvar dersim hariç bütün hocalar dönem ödevi verdi ve okulu terk ettim. Her hafta laboratuvar derslerine katıldım. Burada beni şoke eden şey ise laboratuvar koşulları idi. Çünkü ben öyle bir üniversiteden geliyordum ki ne kendimize ait bir alet, ne de bir dolabımız vardı. İlk derste bana bir anahtar verip burası senin dolabın ve bunlarda çalışmalarda kullanacağın malzemeler dediler. Zor olsa da kısa sürede adapte olmuştum. Bir sınıf arkadaşımla sohbet ederken kendi çalışma koşullarımdan bahsettim ve çok şaşırmıştı. Daha sonra ben soru sorma gereği duydum, malumunuz kriz var ama her şey yerli yerinde. O da demişti ki hükümet bilimsel çalışmalara çok yatırım yapıyor. Bu konu üzerine kitap yazılabilir! Neyse daha fazla sözü uzatmadan laboratuvar dersimi ve dönem ödevlerimi yaparak bütün derslerimden başarılı bir şekilde geçtim.

Okulda etkinlikler de oluyor tabi durum böyle olunca:)

Bölümden arkadaşlarım bir akşam düzenlenecek olan partiye beni de davet ettiler. Okulun koridorunda öğleden sonra hazırlıklar başladı. Bar kuruldu, içkiler dolaplara yerleştirildi, sahne ve projeksiyon ayarlandı. Psychedelic (saykodelik) parti artık ses sisteminin ve sahnenin kurulmasıyla artık hazırdı. Akşam olunca Erasmus'tan arkadaşlarımla partiye doğru yola koyulmuştuk. Burada eğlenceli olan Çek bir arkadaşım adaya geldiğinde vosvos almıştı. Fıkra gibi Çek, İspanyol ve Türk vosvosla partiye doğru ilerledik. Ve hep beraber sabaha kadar dans etmiştik.

Tabi hocalar dönem ödevi verince Erasmus döneminin son haftası hepsini ziyaret edip, sınav oldum.

En güzel tarafı ise boş zamanlarımı Yunan kültürü, daha sonra Girit kültürünü tanımakla geçirdim.

After arriving in the island, I had a short period of distress in Amoudara. It all fixed after i moved to the new house. So I found a peace. I could concentrate on university life now. I was on my way to the school to meet the teachers.

If we look at the year which is 2011, Greece was in a very big crisis. Everywhere there were demonstrations, boycotts, student movements.

When I first rode to university, many banners adorned the streets. When i close to campus there were more banners. When I threw my first step into the department, i saw many sprey writing on the walls. Despite not knowing what they wrote, i feel excited. As I walked in the corridors, I started to see more writing.

As I walked to look for the teachers' rooms, I had to go through the room where the canteen was located. And at that moment I saw that many students were preparing a banner, and they were building their own canteen with a collective work. Because the price was high in the canteen of the school, they produced and supplied the eating habits of the students themselves. Certainly there was no charge for the coffee, the water, the toast. If you were going through a certain amount of money you were throwing money in a box. You could do your coffee, your toast as you like. Aha, I dreamed of a university environment that I dreamed of :) Also there was a sound system and they could turn on the music which they wanted to listen on Youtube. I took coffee and spent some time forgetting about teachers and lessons and i started watching them.

I also had the opportunity to chat with a few people during this time. He briefly told me why they prepared a banner. Many friends were taken into custody. Because when they are going to be examinations, they decide boycott the exam with democratic voting system among themselves. When teachers did not accept this boycott, they decided to take action and locked them in their rooms. Yes, you did not hear wrong! They have decided to take action to release their friends.

Footnote, at the time of the action, I was walking in the center called Lion square and the next day their friends were free :)

After the conversation finished, I went to see each teacher in their room. Since the main language is in Greek, all the teachers except the laboratory lectures gave me term paper and i left the university. I attended lab classes every week. What shocked me here was the laboratory conditions. Because I came from a university like this, we had neither a tool of our own nor a cabinet. The first class they gave me a key of cabinet and they said that this is the stuff you will use in work. Even though it was hard, I was soon adapting. When I was chatting with a classmate, I talked about my working conditions and he was very surprised. Later I asked a question, you know there is a crisis but everything is in place. He said that the government is investing a lot in scientific research. A book on this subject can be written!
Anyway, I passed my lessons successfully without making any more promises, by doing laboratory lessons and term papers.

There were activities in the school as well :)

They did a psychedelic party in the school hallway. Yes, you have not heard wrong again. They built their own bars and sold drinks :) and danced all night :)

During the last week of the Erasmus period I visited the teachers and took the exam.

The best part is that I spent my free time learning Greek culture and later Cretan culture.
