Causes of the Increasing Number of Patients

Introduction

During this time I noticed that the rate of patient visits to the hospital was getting higher, especially the patient's visit to Teungku Chik Ditiro Sigli Hospital. Patient visits for polyclinics per day on average 800-1000 patients. Inpatients are also booming. Almost every day inpatients do not get treatment in the treatment room, because the number of beds available is not in accordance with the number of patients who are hospitalized, so patients wait several days so that the beds in the treatment room are empty. During not getting treatment room, patients are placed in the corridor in the inpatient room or in the transition room that connects the emergency room with the inpatient room.

The Aceh government, through the Aceh health service, called on hospitals in Aceh not to reject patients coming to the hospital, even though the inpatient room was full, but patients still had to be served. Because of this policy the patient finally does not get a proper treatment room.

Causes of increasing patient visits

According to my analysis, there are 3 causes of high patient visits to hospitals, namely:

• The first cause is the higher level of awareness of patients to go to the hospital, because patients were very reluctant to go to the hospital, preferring to go to a traditional healer or alternative medicine. This is due to the absence of medical expenses or because of the lack of trust of patients in hospital services, so that new patients are taken to the hospital if the disease gets worse.
• The second cause is the existence of Aceh Health Insurance, which is a health insurance program issued by the Aceh government for all people who have an Aceh identity card. With this free treatment program, more and more people go to the hospital.
• The third cause is the increasing number of Acehnese who suffer from diseases. Both infectious diseases or degenerative diseases. The most common infectious disease suffered by patients is pulmonary tuberculosis, this is due to unhealthy lifestyles in Acehnese society such as smoking. While the most degenerative diseases suffered by patients are diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Patients with degenerative diseases are increasingly high in Aceh due to increased life expectancy, unhealthy lifestyles and higher rates of cure for infectious diseases. Then there is one more disease suffered by patients in Aceh, namely traffic accidents. This is closely related to the high use of motorbikes and the lack of discipline of motorists on the highway.

Conclusion

In addition to health insurance from the government of Aceh, the high number of patient visits to the hospital is due to increased public awareness for treatment and high rates of road accidents.
