Can You Trust an Ex-Convict?

in #esteem6 years ago

Honestly, please tell me if you are comfortable to hire or being around an ex-convict, a drug addict or someone who has a history of doing bad things in the past? Are you sure that the person can really be trusted? They might and will try their best to convince you that they are no longer the person that they used to be, but honestly, can you trust them?

There is a saying, **"a snake may shed its skin many times, but, it is still a snake"**. It is stated that most of these ex-convicts will go back to their previous habits and only a few will be able to move on and live like any normal people. Yes, no matter how these people tried their best to change others perceptions about them, they can never be convincing enough that they won't repeat their past mistakes.

So, what are the options for these people to live normally among the societies? How can they keep on living honestly without being shunted out by their own families and the communities? Once a convict, they won't be able to shed the description, maybe for the rest of their live. The only way to start a new life is by living in a new place where nobody knows them.

I am not sure if there is a programme that can help these people, especially in my country Malaysia. These people need a special programme that can eases them back slowly into the society. These people needs a helping hand as they will find it difficult to find a job and earn an honest living. Thus, under immense pressure, they will have to revert to their old ways.

These ex-convicts are human too, most of them might have repented and intend to live an honest life. But until they can really convince us that they do belong to the society and won't be a harm to others, I don't think they will have the opportunity to live like they hoped for. They should be given a chance to prove themselves, but not many people out there are willing to take the risks that might harm their own well-being.
