#wednesdaywalk challenge American Muesum of Natural HistorysteemCreated with Sketch.

I've gotta be honest with you, I was really struggling to come up with something to write about today. The past couple of Wednesdays I have been posting in with the #wednesdaywalk tag as part of the challenge by @tattoodjay.

My recent posts for the challenge have been from a couple of trips I took a long time ago to New York. I wish there was some grand inspiration for my posts in this challenge lately, but frankly I am using these pictures because it is easy.

I was going through some old files when I found them and I thought to myself "some of these are really good pictures", so I figured I should share them with the world. Beyond this introduction, I am probably not going to have a lot of text in this post.

That's a good thing for you, because I am generally pretty wordy. At least when it comes to writing anyway. Try to talk to me in person and I am quiet as a lamb. Anyway, as we were walking on the West side of Central Park one day we decided it might be a cool idea to visit the American Museum of Natural History.

At the time they had an ancient Egypt exhibit as one of their main features, so that was the clincher for me. I've always been fascinated by ancient Egypt and the pyramids. There is something mystical about it that draws me in.

It was pretty impressive that they brought in these pieces of the actual structure of one of the buildings. The detail in the carvings on the stones were equally impressive.

There were also a large number of sculptures on display. The breadth of the exhibit was really impressive. We have a small museum that puts on exhibits near the town I live in, but they are nothing on the scale of this.

I remember one time they had a couple of the Terra Cotta Warriors on display, but they only had room for two of them. Here they potentially could have fit the whole army!

Of course it wouldn't be an Egyptian exhibit without a sarcofagus or two...

They also had many other items on display like pottery and jewelry that had been recovered.

They also had a pretty cool far East exhibit that I took some pictures of.

Sadly, because of the lighting and the glass a lot of my pictures from this area didn't turn out. Those are the only two that aren't miserably blurry.

Finally, after we finished withe the main exhibits we walked through the rest of the museum. As I said, it is pretty big and they had a large variety of items to view. Including this space exhibit.

One thing I do remember clearly about the museum was the line. It took a long time to get our tickets and gain admission into the museum. I am not sure if there is ever a not busy time as New York is a big city and people visit from all over the world.

That's it for my Wednesday walk. I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

I've been by but never in the American Museum of Natural History. There is a reason for that. In my limited opinion I think the MOMA is the finest museum on earth. In my limited exposure I always end up there...

This is a great walk. Thanks Bozz. I really did appreciate this one.

Even I have been there - being pushed in a wheelchair by a friend of mine, racing through the halls, well, that's a fun story... But I agree, MoMA is my favourite museum in NYC, and MoMA PS1 is my second favourite, lol. Anyway. I love museums, don't go often enough.

That is pretty funny! I really wish we could have went to the art museum. Maybe next time...

Yeah, I wish we could have hit that one.

What an interesting #wednesdaywalk @bozz, I find museums so fascinating, have not been inside one for years now! Lovely photos as well. It must be quite hectic waiting in those queues in winter!

Thank you!

First off your right the photos are really good, and secondly i must say I am feeling a real slacker, I have worked in NYC for close to 15 Years now, and even lived close by for 10 of those years aBut I have never been into this Museum, and ter your post and greta shots I realize I need to such a cool exhibit and I am sure whatever they have now will be equally interesting to see,
So before I retire and move away I need to plan a trip here and to some of the other MUseums inthe city

They are pretty cool. I wish we would have had time to go to the art museum, but sadly we were on a tight schedule. I do remember on one of the trips we went to a photography museum in some part of the city. I guarantee I still have the ticket for it, but I can't remember the name of it right now. No need to feel like a slacker. There is so much to do in the city and I am sure when you are there all the time it's nice just to get out of it and go home at the end of the work day. It's not a cheap place either, that's for sure!

The funny thing is I do believe Visitors to the city make more use of their time and see so much whe you live or work here its so easy to put things off and never get around to it.
MOMA used to have a Photography part tot he Museum and the International Center of Photography includes a Museum, tow place sI have been to :)

And I know I went to 3 or 4 MUseums early onhere but I forget which ones they were

I think it was the international center of photography.

I enjoyed my visit there but that was years ago I must revisit it

wow that is an impressive exhibition. They really have a lot of great things. Can't imagine what the organisation of such will be. The transport of those valuable items must be secure... My employer went on a trip to China and brought a replica of a terracotta soldier for all of us at the company, after that I digged into that history, unbelievable for that time what they were capable of...

No doubt! It would be awesome to see them in their original resting place, but I don't think that will ever happen for me. I can't even begin to imagine the work that goes into setting up an exhibit like that!

Great pictures! I've seen the Egyptian exhibition only in the British museum in London. But in the American museum of natural history, my favourites were probably all the dioramas of animals in the Hall of African Mammals (and other). They are unique and really well made, with backgrounds painted in such way, that gives an illusion of depth and distance, so you feel, as if you're looking into the savannah. It's really awesome!

I don't remember having any issue with long lines, but maybe it's just something that my memory doesn't dwell on :D
