pictures of neighbours who spent their time at the shop

We have been opening the Shop till late night for 11 weeks. There's time when nobody come to the shop but we still have some regular customers who need some packs of cigarettes or those who just passes by . I learned that everytime we have a community issue, the customers who also community boards, would start to discuss about it before they take it to another level, community meeting.

We have 7 neighbourhood's boards as the lowest level of the community council which lead by someone we call as Pak RW, one of my loyal customer who loves to listen to all the issues from our shop.

Something bad has happened yesterday, a child kidnap attemption at the kindergarten which also part of my block. I don't really knowbthe exact story was because I've been so busy with household chores and my steemmonsters 😅 battle. My Hubby didn't want to talk about it.

From the conversation with some customers whom also my neighbours, the kidnap attempt is not for the first time. I remember that Bang Aat shared a story about his son's friend who has been taken by an old man on the way home from the sport center. The old man took him to somewhere else, rob the kid's handphone and left him at the district hospital, 5 kilometres away from our residential compound.

Another story was a boy kidnaped by a crazy man and wrapped in a rice bag, but when the kid screaming he was left behind and the kidnapers run away before the villagers stopped them. I heard more tragic story from the neighbour's town too, a kid kidnaped and his kidney being taken by someone right in the car which the kidnapers drive and then they release him back near the house but few days after that the kid has died.

Security always a big problem that never been solved here in my neighbourhood, though we have a good community bond through some events and regulations, but still the awareness and care of the community still needed. I asked 2 little biy to head home immediatelly from my shop last night. They're still wearing their sport school uniform, maybe they've just had some sport training from school. They didn't protest my request though they said they're living in the front blocks.

From the discussion before, many speculations submerged. Some said it was by design, some said it was just accident, but in my humble opinion, the best way to prevent the kidnap attempts, we need to work together in community and built a communication bridge with police or other authorities. Pak RW promised us to take care of that.

I do hope that there'll be no more kidnap attempt happened in our green and peaceful neighbourhood, meantime the commilunity leaders should take affirmative actions soon.

I think it must be very interesting to listen to the community leaders who come to your shop to talk about important issues. And you can add your ideas to their talk and they will listen. They will listen if they want to stay on your good side! So I think you will not just let them talk, you will ask what action they have taken and that will make them take action!

I hope all the children will be safe. It sounds like your neighbors keep a close eye on them. They know them and know who is a stranger who should not be there.

In some of our neighborhoods, especially near schools, they have set up 'safe places' where any child in trouble can go. These are just people who want to protect children. I think the police help with setting it up, putting up the signs and making sure they know who to call for help. It makes things a little safer.

Yes @donna-metcalfe 😊 some of the community leaders like to spent their time at the shop be ause they can discuss with other and especially with both of us☺ not so many women to talk to about various topics here. Our best enemy is ourselves right now.. why? We don't really care on others and easily belueve the hoax news through social media. I suggest the community leader to make a community capacity building on protecting their neighbourhood not only for children safety but also to react on other mass euphoria and paranoias.

We only have a unit at the sector police to handle the problems that involved women and children, but they're only a passive unit, they'll work once they have any reports from community. That's why affirmative action from the district government and community of neighbourhoods need to applied in such situation.

Most people thought that it aren't their business, until they became the victims.

People not caring until it happens to them is so true. Then it becomes important - to them - and they don't understand why no one else cares!

I understand about passive police. If something is not reported to them officially then they can't do anything about it. That's mostly the law, unless they see it or someone tells them they can't interfere. But there are communities where the police are more active. They give classes and help neighborhoods organize. In my town there is a program called "Neighborhood Watch" - first someone has to ask, then the police will come out and talk to everyone and put out signs. The signs tell people that this neighborhood is watching out for each other. And watching out for strangers. This doesn't make it nice for strangers, whether they are good or bad people, but the point is to keep everyone safe. Someone has to agitate, stir the pot, get the leaders off their behinds!

somehow @donna-metcalfe, we already have that kind of neighbourhood watch, we have our own security neighbourhood and sometimes the sector police and millitary rayon chief also sent their man to our neighbourhood, but more to get some "cigarettes fee"rather than protect our neighbourhood, maybe because we're living in Urban Area. some neighbours suggest to use CCTV for the neighbourhood.. but in my opinion, CCTV won't work really good, community watch is better than anything but the community leader could bridge our own system with the police program.

Yes, you don't need official signs for a neighborhood watch! The camera idea would work best if there were warning signs everywhere - the more signs the less cameras you would need! :-)

Is a "cigarette fee" what it sounds like? A "gift" to the police that they expect? Like free coffee but cigarettes (or money?) to keep the policemen happy?

I am thinking that the police won't come up with ideas that make extra work for them, so the ideas will have to come from the community to your leaders and then up the ladder to someone important enough to make some changes.

So we can say that your shop is like a community meeting place, right, I can see @cicisaja that you live in a place where kids are not safe, and I get terrified when you wrote that the kidnapper took a kidney of boy in a car and throw back the boy outside of his own house, that's tragic, plz take of yourself and your family.

we are not statue which only witnessed without action

Very well known proverb suits for this problem "United we stand, Divided we fall"

Jaga keluargamu @cicisaja

You are right @jigsindian .. there're several places around our block for the community meeting place, but most of the old dwellers love to have a cup of coffee at ours till midnight.

Well.. the story about other kidnapping not really around the neighbourhood but at the neighbour district while our city was once declared as a safe place for children, but all those kidnapping just happened in last 3 months. We knew every children in our neighbourhood .. that's why the kidnapped attempt at the kindergarten can be stopped by some people who happened there.

But.. still, we need to take care of our neighbourhood no matter it's our own blood children or not. Thanjs for your concern 😊

Yea it doesn’t matter of whose children, but as a human we get hurt when we see such kind of cruel things to anywhere in the world, I can’t believe sometime that how can they do those things to the kids, how stone hearted people they are., it’s good that you all are in a safe place, it's not just a problem of your country or your neighborhood it's cruelty increasing to all over the world now, Take care @cicisaja
