Transfer deadline : A look at Manchester United

The Community Shield has officially signalled the beginning of the new season and summer transfer window officially closed last Thursday. I have been watching the transfer dealings with keen interest and while I was impressed by some clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United on the other hand have failed to really impress in the transfer window.

Of course United signed a couple of players especially in the defense with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka while Welsh winger Daniel James joined from Swansea City. Spanish midfielder Anders Herrera was among 15 players that left Old Trafford for greener pasture, the Spaniard left for PSG without United providing adequate replacement. This is against the backdrop that the team lacks a credible creative midfielder.

The attack is also in decline with the departure of Belgian point man Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan who was also not replaced.As far as I know Rashford and Martial are good but they do not have the physical presence of Lukaku. The team finished outside the top four last season and with Ed Wood ward's seeming failure in the summer transfer window, their luck will definitely remain the same.

Manchester City is odds on favourite to win the Premier league again this season with Liverpool trailing briefly behind. Jurgen Klopp also didn't see the need for reinforcement but you really can't bet against the current European Champions.

In my humble opinion this is an opportunity lost as every great team requires reinforcement in the right areas not to talk of a struggling side and a team in transition like United.
