Men with high metabolisms will do just about anything to go from skinny to muscle. After all, it’s no fun being the wimpy-looking guy. If you’re doing all you can to gain muscle but it’s still not working for you, you can pack on muscle using these healthy methods.

Diet to Gain Muscle

If you want to gain muscle, you have to eat the right way. This means protein, protein, and more protein! Protein-rich foods such as beef, eggs, poultry, beans, and dairy products help build muscle while helping you recover from workouts faster. Pair your protein with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit for a well-rounded diet.

While we’re talking about what you need to eat to pack on muscle, it’s also just as important to know what to avoid. Processed foods are a big one. When you’re trying to gain muscle and trim down, the last thing you want to are eat fast-food cheeseburgers and burritos. Carbs are another food group to cut down on. The bulk of your nutrients should come from protein, healthy fat, vegetables, and fruit.

When you’re working out to gain muscle, you need to eat more often. Eating small meals every 2 ½ to 3 hours will help you stay satisfied. Don’t stuff yourself full before a workout but never go hungry or you’ll slow your natural metabolism.

Exercise to Pack on Muscle

When you’re trying to pack on muscle, you’ve got to train the right way. This means less cardio and more intense strength training. Using heavy weights do intense lifting on one part of your body one day and alternate to another part of your body the next. These rest periods are just as important as hard periods of exercise.

Speaking of rest periods, if you’ve done hard strength training one day, switch it up with recovery cardio exercises. This means hitting the stationary bike, the hiking trail, the swimming pool, or the racquet ball court. Any low-intensity exercise that keeps your heartbeat under 120 beats per minute is a great way to get good exercise without losing muscle mass.
