Animal photography: cats eating omelette, แมวชอบกินไข่เจียว

About two weeks ago, I was running out of cats food. As I would not have the time to do shopping in town, I had to improvise for two days.

I opened my fridge and found lots of eggs so I made omelette for my six cats without any idea about their reaction. I had to chop the omelette into smaller pieces and spread them onto a plastic sheet. Some cats were super fast in gobbling up food so I had to make sure each cat had her share. The result was better than I expected, they finished the omelette.

It was very funny looking at how the cats tackled the soft texture of cooked eggs. The youngest kitten took sometime to approach the strange looking dinner. Once the biggest cat approved of the omelette, others quickly followed. I had to make omelette as my cats’ dinners for two days. Sometimes when the cats’ food was running low, my gardener would give them sticky rice. It turned out that these Isaan cats just love to eat sticky rice; but they did not like ordinary boiled rice! I did give them some sticky rice last weekend. It was so funny to see the kittens got sticky rice stuck in between their teeth. The white kitten seemed to be very crazy about sticky rice. I had to stop her from eating too much. All the cats looked very sleepy after the sticky rice breakfast.

I would give them grilled mackerel during the weekend for their breakfast. Whenever the cats heard the sound of crushing grilled mackerel in plastic bag, they would run to their eating posts. I just had to make sure that I took out sharp and big pieces of bones from the fish before giving smaller pieces of fish to the kittens. The other day, the mother cat was in such a hurry, she got a piece of bone stuck in her mouth. She would not allow me to pull it out for her; it took her a few days to get rid of that piece of bone. I have decided to stop giving milk to all the cats as I noticed they have some stomach problem after lapping up the milk. Perhaps I should boil the milk before giving it to these orange cats.

เมื่อหลายสัปดาห์ก่อน อาหารแมวที่บ้านใกล้หมด และเราไม่มีเวลาเข้าเมืองไปซื้อมาเพิ่ม เราต้องหาวิธีแก้ปัญหา เราไปเห็นไข่ไก่ในตู้เย็น จึงลองทำไข่เจียวให้แมวกินโดยไม่รู้ว่าแมวจะยอมกินหรือเปล่า เราต้องหั่นไข่เจียวออกเป็นชิ้นเล็กๆ แล้ววางเรียงบนแผ่นพลาสติก
เพราะแมวบางตัวกินอาหารเร็วมาก จนตัวอื่นที่มาทีหลังไม่มีอะไรเหลือให้กิน โชคดีมากที่แมวตัวใหญ่ยอมกินไข่เจียว ทำให้แมวตัวเล็กยอมกินด้วย เราทำไข่เจียวเลี้ยงแมวสองวันในตอนเช้า ก่อนไปหาซื้ออาหารแมวมาตุนไว้อีกหลายถุง

คนสวนบอกเราว่าบางวันเขาลองเอาข้าวเหนียวนึ่งให้แมวกิน ปรากฎว่ามันชอบมาก โดยเฉพาะลูกแมวแย่งกันกิน แต่พอเอาข้าวเจ้าให้กิน แมวเดินหนีชามข้าวกัน นี่แหละแมวอีสานแท้ ชอบกินข้าวเหนียว วันก่อนเราได้ข้าวเหนียวนึ่งใหม่ๆให้แมวกินดู มันกินกันอย่างอร่อย ลูกแมวตัวสีขาวชอบมาก และกินจนพุงป่อง เราต้องไปจับมันออกมาจากชามข้าว แมวกินข้าวเหนียวเสร็จก็เริ่มเดินไม่ไหว พากันหาที่นอนพักผ่อน ปกติเราจะให้แมวกินปลาทูย่างทุกวันเสาร์และวันอาทิตย์ตอนเช้า เราต้องเอาก้างปลาที่คมและชิ้นใหญ่ออกไปก่อน นำไปให้ลูกแมวกิน เมื่ออาทิตย์ที่แล้วแม่แมวรีบร้อนกินเร็วไปทำให้ก้างปลาติดฟัน เราพยายามจะช่วยดึงออกให้ มันก็ไม่ยอม ทำให้มันต้องทนเจ็บไปสามวันกว่าที่ก้างปลาจะหลุดออกมา โชคดีที่มันไม่ได้เป็นอะไรมาก เราไม่เคยนึกมาก่อนเลยว่าต้องมาเป็นห่วงและดูแลแมวมากขนาดนี้ แมวทำให้เราใจเย็นและช่างสังเกตมากขึ้น เราคิดว่าต้องเลิกให้แมวกินนมกล่องแล้ว สังเกตว่ามันท้องเสียหลายตัว ถ้ามีเวลาก็จะต้มนมให้เดือดก่อน แล้วรอให้เย็นลงก่อนนำไปเสริฟแมวทั้งหลาย
