December 5th is Father ‘s Day in Thailand so I go to temples to make merits,
Today is public holiday in Thailand as it’s our National Father’s Day which was the late King Bhumipol Adulyadej’s birthday.
I decided to have a break on this public holiday to visit Wat Bowornives Viharn in Banglumpoo area. This temple is also known as Wat Bowonniwet or Wat Boworn. This temple is the residence of the Supreme Patriach and a first class Royal temple. Several princes and Kings has resided here during their monkhood so this temple is very close to the Royal families.
This temple is probably the oldest temple in Bangkok. Originally there were two small temples separated by a canal. The two temples were combined and a larger temple was built during the reign of King Rama III, in 1932. The new name was given: Wat Bowornivet Vihara which has become the center of Theravada Buddhism founded by King Rama IV or King Mongkut.
I like this temple for its mixture of architecture ranging from traditional Thai design, Chinese roofs with Chinese porcelain decorations and carved Chinese stone dolls, Italian marbles with imported wrought iron railings and French style wooden windows with the tinge of colonial design. So, each time I visit this temple, my eyes pick up on new details which were quite fascinating.
Wat Boworn has a fifty meters high Jedi (pronounce as Jedee) in bright golden colour with a sharp spire. This golden Jedi contained sacred Buddha relics and a very famous Phra Pairee Piñata (which means ‘defeating all enemies). Thai people would carry a small statue of this Buddha with them for protection from adverse energies.
The main attractions are located in three places: the Ubosod or Ordination Hall, and the two smaller vjharns (smaller halls). Being a Royal temple, the decorations and designs of Ubosod are very ornate and mostly covered with gold leaves. Inside, there are two golden Buddha images. The smaller Buddha in front is Phra Phutta Chinasi, a beautiful Sukhothai Buddha mounded in 1357. This Buddha came from the main temple in Pisanulok province. The larger Buddha image is called ‘Luang Phor To’ which means Venerable Father Big! This Buddha came from Petchaburi province.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Cheers.

Hope you had a great and peaceful day. Your pictures show amazing buildings, sculptures, beautiful art. So much real gold and devotion! Again religious energy.
On the other hand, all those shiny temples and statures are in other people belief systems work of the big deceiver and reasons why followers of different religions can't come together. What makes me really sad.
Thank you! Luckily, the Buddhist tradition here is rather unique. There is no segregation among the different religious communities here. People are very tolerant and charitable, so we are lucky. But they have different political allegiances to political parties!

Thank you @kaminchan. I saw the bigger picture, different religions arguing with each other.
