Discovering a flea market on the way to my friends’ house, ไปเจอตลาดนัดเพราะขับรถหลงทาง

Yesterday I had to drive out of town to meet my old friends for dinner. I haven’t visited them for about seven years. I faintly remember the way to their house.

I was quite excited to see dramatic changes on both side of the roads. I used to see green areas full of tree tops and fruit trees from the elevated high way. The flat green scenery has been replaced by high rise buildings and office buildings. There are now many new property development projects along the fifty kilometers high way. Luckily I kept to the left side so I did not miss the first turning on the left even though there are so many tall trees at the corner.

The traffic was rather busy comparing with seven years ago. This road runs along a small river so many new real estates have been established along the riverside. I decided to explore this new hub of activities and found myself following all the traffic into the parking area of a market place.

By that time I realized I had missed my lunch, so I asked a shopkeeper where I could find a nice restaurant. But this weekend market is catered for people with much lower income in the area. So there were only few fast food stalls; I went for the simple Padthai which turned out very delicious and cheap.

I had a quick survey of this market place and found that many shops were closed due to worsening economic situation. These shops had very colourful graffitis on their shutters. A few years ago, this must have been a blustering and lively weekend market. The front area had been transformed into stalls selling very cheap second-hand clothes, including hats, belts and handbags!

There were three stalls selling antiques and assorted odd objects. Most owners were either taking a nap or playing games on mobile phones. At least there were customers buying some second-hand clothes. I also found a shop selling second-hand guitars and another bigger shop full of second-hand bicycles, motor bikes, surf boards and clothes. The trading atmosphere was very quiet and gloomy. I really felt sorry for these shop owners as they had to earn enough money to pay for their rents and utilities.

The second floor was in a much worse state with all shops abandoned by renters and the whole floor shut down and electricity switched off. I walked around with a weary heart for I was afraid this was just the beginning. People here are simple folks with minimum education without any clue about what has been brewing in the global financial situation, let alone the knowledge on crypto currency. This made me quite mad with selfish politicians, civil servants and the elites who have been obstructing real reforms in our education system.

My friends phoned me up to make sure I was not getting lost along the way. I had a whole hour walking around the market with the realisation of the lost opportunity in economic progress and improved quality of life among the underprivileged people in the country. Perhaps there would be more antique shops and stalls selling curiosity objects in the future as more people will be losing their jobs due to economic downturn and the replacement of human labour with robots and Artificial Intelligance.

วันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมาเราได้ไปเยี่ยมเพื่อนเก่านอกเมือง เราไม่ได้ไปเยี่ยมเพื่อน และกินข้าวเย็นที่บ้านนี้ประมาณเจ็ดปีแล้ว เราพอจำทางไปได้แต่ไม่แน่ใจว่าเราจะหลงทางหรือเปล่า พอขับรถไปตามมอเตอร์เวย์และถนนลอยฟ้า เราจึงเริ่มสังเกตเห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้น สมัยก่อนเวลามองไปจะเห็นแต่ยอดต้นมะพร้าว และสวนผลไม้ของคนรุ่นก่อน สีเขียวจะไกลสุดสายตา แต่ปัจจุบันเราเห็นตึกแถว คอนโดและอาคารสำนักงานใหม่ๆ ตลอดจนทางเข้าหมู่บ้านตลอดสองข้างทาง เมืองขยายออกไปเร็วมาก

เราพยายามชิดซ้ายเพื่อหาทางแยกที่ต้องเลี้ยวเข้าสู่ถนนเส้นรอง โชคดีที่เราตัดสินใจเลี้ยวถูกแยกแม้ว่าจะมีต้นไม้บังป้ายถนน ยิ่งขับรถไปก็ยิ่งรู้สึกว่าเหมือนเป็นมนุษย์ต่างดาว ไม่มีอะไรเหมือนในอดีตเลย เราก็ขับตามรถคันหน้าไปเรื่อย และเลี้ยวตามเขาไปจนตามไปจอดรถในตลาดนัด เราอยากเรียนรู้ขีวิตของคนนอกเมืองว่าเขาทำอะไรกันเช้าวันอาทิตย์ อยากดูสภาพแวดล้อมและการเป็นอยู่ของคนที่อยู่ขอบเมืองหลวง ตลาดนัดในท้องที่เป็นเครื่องบ่งบอกถึงสภาพเศรษฐกิจของที่นั่น เราค่อนข้างตกใจกับสภาพกึ่งร้างของร้านต่างๆที่ถูกปิดไปส่วนหนึ่ง และร้านที่เปิดอยู่ก็เงียบเหงา แทบไม่มีลูกค้าเลย สินค้าก็ไม่ค่อยมี ไม่มีร้านอาหารที่มีชื่อร้านเลย เราต้องไปกินผัดไทยที่ร้านในเต็นท์ ราคาอาหารตามสั่งถูกกว่าในเมืองและได้ปริมาณมากด้วย เรารู้เลยว่าการลงทุนของตลาดแห่งนี้ล้มเหลว ผู้เช่าทิ้งร้าน และไม่ต่อสัญญาเช่ากัน คนที่สัญญายังไม่หมดก็ทนอยู่ไป ข้างๆร้านอาหารเป็นที่ขายของมือสองและของเก่า

บรรยากาศเงียบเหงามาก คนขายของไม่ต้องเฝ้าร้าน บางคนนอนเล่นบางคนนั่งเล่นเกมส์ในมือถือ เราก็เดินเล่นถ่ายรูปดูของไปเรื่อย ที่นี่เป็นแหล่งซื้อเสื้อผ้ามือสองที่มีราคาถูกที่สุดที่เราเคยเจอมา มีทุกอย่างสำหรับแต่งตัว รวมทั้งเข็มขัด หมวก และกระเป๋าถือ ส่วนร้านขายของเก่าก็มีของใช้ ของตั้งโชว์สมัยโบราณสำหรับเรา ที่นี่มีส่วนช่วยลดค่าใช้จ่ายให้ผู้มีรายได้น้อยมากทีเดียว เช่นเสื้อตัวละ สามสิบบาท บางอย่างซื้อหนึ่งแถมหนึ่งด้วย

ภายในตลาดมีการแบ่งห้องเป็นร้านค้า ทำคล้ายกับจตุจักรแต่ที่นี่มีร้านเปิดอยู่ไม่ถึงยี่สิบร้าน เราไปเจอร้านขายกีตาร์มือสอง และร้านขายของเก่าที่มีทั้งจักรยาน มอเตอร์ไซด์ และกระดานโต้คลื่นกับเสื้อผ้าลายฮาวายสำหรับไปเที่ยวทะเล เราเดินขึ้นไปชั้นสองไปสำรวจร้านต่างๆ แต่น่าเศร้ามากที่ชั้นสองปิดทำการ ไม่มีร้านขายของเลยและค่อนข้างมืด เราไปเดินต่อที่ซอยหลังที่จอดรถ ร้านส่วนใหญ่ปิดกิจการ ไม่มีคนเดินเลย เราก็ถ่ายรูปบรรยากาศมาเตือนใจเราถึงความเปลี่ยนแปลง มีขึ้นก็ต้องมีขาลง

เพื่อนโทรมาตามและถามว่าหลงทางหรือเปล่า เราตั้งใจหลงทางเพื่อเก็บข้อมูลชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของประชาชน ที่ต้องดิ้นรนหาเลี้ยงชีวิตทุกวันด้วยความอดทนและความหวัง คนแถวนี้เป็นคนเรียบง่ายที่มีการศึกษาไม่สูงมาก ไม่มีโอกาสในชีวิตและความก้าวหน้าเหมือนคนในใจกลางเมืองหลวง เขาเหล่านี้ด้อยโอกาสทางการศึกษาทำให้ไม่มีโอกาสในการสร้างชีวิตให้ก้าวหน้าแบบก้าวกระโดด เราอยากจะสาธยายถึงความเห็นแก่ตัวและชั่วร้ายของนักการเมือง ข้าราชการและ กลุ่มชนชั้นนำทีมีเงินและอำนาจ คนเหล่านี้ไม่มีความประสงค์ให้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงระบบการศึกษาให้ดีขึ้นเลย เขาชอบควบคุมคนที่หลอกง่ายและคิดเชิงวิเคราะห์ไม่เป็น ทำให้ไม่ทันเล่ห์เหลี่ยมอันแยบยลและซับซ้อน

เราก็อดเป็นห่วงคนส่วนใหญ่ที่ไม่รู้และไม่เข้าใจสภาพเศรษฐกิจและการเงินในประเทศตะวันตก ที่จะทำให้เกิดวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจครั้งต่อไปในอนาคต เราเองยังต้องมานั่งคิดวางแผนตั้งรับพายุทางการเงินที่จะโหมมา ครั้งนี้จะหนักหนาสาหัสมากกว่าทุกครั้งในอดีต เราก็หวังว่าจะมีทางออกที่ช่วยผ่อนปรนให้หนักกลายเป็นเบาด้วยเถอด
