Let's go to Asiatique the Riverfront by Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, ไปเที่ยวเอเชียทีคที่ริมแม่นํ้าเจ้าพระยาที่กรุงเทพฯ

This weekend I decided to make a short boat trip to have a look at Asiatique, a famous riverfront in Bangkok. The quickest way to get there is to take the free boat trip from Sathorn Pier which is close to the sky-train Sathorn station.

There are boats traveling to-and from Asiatique pier every fifteen minutes. The journey took about ten minutes on the river to the riverfront. i was lucky as hte queue for the boat was not very long though I seemed to be the only Thai tourist there. As soon as passengers got onto the waiting boat, there was a scramble for the best seats to take in the best views and for photography. I was amazed that the majoroty of tourists came as a whole families and there were lots of small children. I chose to travel around late afternoon to avoid the heat. It was so much more enjoyable sitting in the boat with cool breezes blowing in one's face.

The full moon day was yesterday, that's why the tide was very high and the river was full of solid sheets of powerful water. Sitting on the boat watching the stern of the boat cutting into the flowing waves was very exhilarating and satisfying. When the bost was in the middle of the river, I suddenly felt how small the boat became comapring with the width of the river. I felt so small and powerless being surronded by strong currents and those skyscrappers. The confidence of the boat captain was very reassuring and I let go of my fear and started to enjoy the natural energy around me. Bangkok looked so different from the middle of the river. Because of the flow of the tides, the boat had to travel further from the landing pier and turn around with the direction of the tides. We all got off the boatas fast as we could, everyone was eager to explore Asiatique.

This area was the first international port of Siam (old name of Thailand) built during the reign of King Rama V during the 1880s by a Dutch company so that Siam could start to export teak wood and logs to raise funds for the modernisation of the country. There used to be hundreds of warehouses, Chinese labourers, cranes for lifting heavy loads from the mercantile ships, and hundreds of junks and sailing boats, huge European ships anchoring along the riverfront. Now, the whole area has been renovated into a big shopping complex with almost a hundred restaurants and bars. This place has become a sightseeing spot for most tourists in Bangkok.

There is also an imitation of London's Eye and children playground for family entertainment. Most people would be enjoying the scenery by the river and taking photos at the Asiatique sign. The evening spent by the river watching changing colours of the sky and clouds was very relaxing until lots of dark clouds came rolling in from the west side of the river. I had a quick walk around and took the next boat back to Sathorn Pier.

สุดสัปดาห์นี้เราได้ไปเที่ยวเอเชียทีคที่ริมแม่นํ้าเจ้าพระยา เราได้แต่มองดูแต่ไกลหลายครั้งแล้ว เลยต้องแวะไปสำรวจดูว่าทำไมคนถึงชอบไปเที่ยวกันนัก วิธีการเดินทางไปที่ง่ายที่สุด คือการน้่งเรือรับส่งที่่เขาจัดให้บริการฟรี จากท่าเรือสาทรนั่นเอง เรือออกจากท่าทุกสิบห้านาที วันที่ไปมีคนคอยคิวสั้นมาก เราจึงเดินทางได้สะดวกมาก พอขึ้นเรือทุกคนก็แย่งกันหาที่นั่งที่คิดว่าดีที่สุดสำหรับการชมวิวแม่นํ้า และการถ่ายรูป ดูเหมือนว่าเราจะเป็นนักท่องเที่ยวไทยคนเดียวในแถว ส่วนใหญ่เขาจะมาเที่ยวกันเป็นครอบครัว เราเห็นเด็กหลายคนในเรือ การเดินทางใช้เวลาประมาณสิบนาที

พอเรือแล่นไปอยู่กลางแม่นํ้าทำให้เราพึ่งตระหนักว่า เรือลำเล็กมากเมื่อเทียบกับความกว้างของแม่นํ้า และพลังของคลื่นนํ้าที่เชี่ยวกราก และโถมใส่เรือ เราเริ่มรู้สึกว่าเราไม่มีพลังอันใดเลยที่จะไปสู้กับพลังนํ้าและลมที่พัดนํ้ามาเป็นคลื่นตลอดเวลา รู้สึกเหมือนกับเราตัวเล็กมากแทบไ่ม่มีทางต่อกรกับพลังธรรมชาติได้ ความมั่นใจของคนขับเรือทำให้เราไว้ใจว่าเขาจะพาพวกเราฝ่าคลื่นนํ้าที่มีแรงมหาศาลได้ เราก็ใช้ไอโฟนถ่ายรูปจนต้องลบแอปเกือบหมด เพราะไม่มีหน่วยความจำเหลือพอให้เราเก็บภาพ และวีดีโอ ตอนนี้โทรศัพท์ใช้เพื่อรับสายโทรศัพท์อย่างเดียว

พื้นทีตรงนี้คือ ท่านํ้านานาชาติแห่งแรกในประเทศสยาม โดยในหลวงรัชกาลที่ห้า ได้เห็นความจำเป็นของการส่งสินค้าไปขายต่างประเทศ เพื่อนำรายได้มาทำให้สยามเจริญทัดเทียมนานาอารยะประเทศ จะได้เท่าทันประเทศต่างในยุโรป และเป็นการต่อต้านกับกระแสการล่าอาณานิคมในสมัยนั้น ปัจจุบันที่นีมีการปรับปรุงพื้นที่ให้กลายเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่ใหญ่มาก มีร้านค้ามากกว่าพันร้าน และมีร้านอาหารนานาชาติและบาร์มากมายให้เลือก

นักท่องเที่ยวพอลงจากเรือ ก็มุ่งหน้าไปถ่ายรูปวิวริมแม่นํ้า และยืนชมพระอาทิตย์ตกดิน บรรยากาศตอนเย็นดืมาก ได้เห็นแสงสีของท้องฟ้า และเมฆที่เปลี่ยนแปลงตลอดเวลา เราเดินเล่นอยู่พักหนึ่งก็ต้องรีบขึ้นเรือกลับมาที่ท่าเรือสาทร เมฆดำทะมึนกำลังเคลื่อนมาจากฝั่งธนบุรี การนั่งเรือชมวิว และรับคลื่นพลังจาก นํ้าเป็นการพักผ่อนที่ดีมากสำหรับคนที่อยู่ในเมืองหลวง
