My architectural photography entry: photos taken while shopping, ภาพถ่ายตึกระฟ้าขณะไปเดินช็อปปิ้ง

This is my entry for architecturalphotography contest hosted by @juliank.

During the last two weeks I had to go shopping for electrical and some new water filter parts. The most convenient shop is Home Pro on the skytrain route. This time I take my time looking at the buildings around me.

This photography contest has made me look at all the buildings and their designs with more critical eyes. I start to ask myself why I like some buildings while some buildings seem to be a sore to my eyes that those designers should have their eyesight examined. Architectural design with consideration of its impact on people could make the cramped city much more friendly and beautiful. The design of building and space surrounding that building has a lot of influence on people’s feeling of well being. The feeling of entering an old monastery is very different from the feeling of entering a modern shopping mall.

However, I still prefer old style buildings and old school architectural design for buildings and condominiums. New buildings and skyscrapers can be very attractive and provocative. But they don’t often exude the sense of peace,stability and connection to the past culture or history. The hidden intention in designing a building has direct impact of our bahaviour and feeling. If a building has been designed with some regards and respect to the dwellers, these people will subconsciously respect that space with appropriate behaviour. People suddenly become very quiet and move slowly inside a spacious and beautifully designed church and monastry. Visitors often walked quietly in wonder among old stone ruins of ancient buildings and temples of the past. Some newly designed hotels with lots of green space will make guests feel very warm and have a relaxing time there.

If more buildings and various spaces have been designed with the intention to improve people’s well being and their quality of life, our daily life especially in big cities would have been much more enjoyable. People’s behaviours and reactions would become more compassionate and more caring towards each other. The sense of alienation while walking in big cities would be much lessened and the sense of peaceful joy will spread among those people in society.
