Thai Photo Contest: statue photography, Indian statues, รูปปั้นเทพเจ้าของแขก
This is my entry for #thaiphotocontest46 on statue photography. The first time I visited the Indian spices market in the oldest market area in Bangkok, I was very surprised to see so many shops selling statues of Indian gods and goddesses.
This made me realized how deeply religious these local Indians must have been throughout the ages. The long colourful garlands were imported from India. These could be machine wash and easily cleaned whenever they became dusty.
I was very impressed by the vendors’ friendliness and politeness. I could walk into any shop to take photos after asking for their permission. Most shops were preparing to close for the day as it was almost six o’clock. That’s probably why there were not many people in the spice market.
This spice market is where local Indians come to buy their spices,garlic,onions, ginger, traditional Indian sweets and food, including statues & ornaments for their shrine rooms. The are so many designs of brass statues that it would be difficult to choose your favourite Indian gods and goddesses.
วันนี้เราลงภาพที่เราไปเดินเล่นที่ตลาดเครื่องเทศมี่แถวสำเพ็ง เราไปเจอเข้าโดยบังเอิญ ทำให้ได้เดินเล่นย่านที่แขกมาช็อปปิ้งเป็นประจำ เราได้เห็นร้านที่ขายรูปปั้นเทพเจ้าของทางศาสนาฮินดูหลายร้าน ทำให้เข้าใจความศรัทธาด้านศาสนาของคนฮินดูมากขึ้น ก็คล้ายกับคนไทยที่ต้องมีพระพุทธรูปที่ห้องพระที่บ้าน ชาวแขกก็มีห้องบูชาเทพเจ้าและมีของตกแต่งหัองพ่ะจองเขาด้วย โดยเขาจะมีพวงมาลัยหลากสี และเครื่องทองเหลืองหลายอย่าง ที่ร้านเหล่านี้มีพวงมาลัยที่นำเข้าจากอินเดียมากมายกลายสี พวงมาลัยเหล่านี้สามารถทำความสะอาด ด้วยการล้างนํ้าหรือใส่ลงในเครื่องซักผ้าได้ด้วย
เราประทับใจกับตวามสุภาพ และความเป็นมิตรของเจ้าของร้านเหล่านี้มาก ทุกคนให้เราเดินถ่ายภาพได้อย่างสบายใจ เราก็ตื่นตาตื่นใจกับของที่เราไม่เคยเห็นมาก่อน เราไม่เคยเห็นเทวรูปหลากหลายขนาดและมีแบบต่างๆให้เลือก จนคนซื้อตัดสินใจลำบากว่าองค์ไหนเหมาะที่สุด เราเองยังจำชื่อเทวรูปไม่ได้เลย เพราะมีเยอะมาก ที่ตลาดเครื่องเทศนี้ เป็นแหล่งรวมเครื่องเทศและอาหารแห้งที่แขกใช้ในการทำอาหาร และมีของใช้เฉพาะของแขกด้วย ที่นี่มีร้านอาหารแขกเก่าแก่ที่ยังทำขนมโบราณของแขกขายหลายอย่าง ถ้าเรามีเวลาว่างๆเราจะไปนั่งกินอาหารแขกที่ร้านนี้สักครั้ง ใครอยากมาเป็นเจ้ามือให้เราบ้าง

I like the way other countries, like yours, use a lot of color. It seems here we see a lot of black and white and grey. My house inside is almost all white. I'm ready for color.
Oh! Colours are very important to your health and energy level! They vibrate and stimulate different chakras or energy points in our body! Please have some colours in your sitting room!
That is not something I know much about. I am needing more energy maybe that's why I'm finding myself drawn to photos like your with all the color. Interesting.

Here, we have spice shops but no statue shops. That's a pity, really
Perhaps it’s because the Indian community there is quite small?! Here, their ancestors been here since a hundred years ago! So, it’s like a Indian village in the middle of the oldest part of Bangkok!

Yeah! I also wonder where they found these statues. I think they were hidden in the earth like most treasures. It’s hard to imagine ancient people would have the technology and skills to cast such huge statues. Their styles are not traditional Thai statues found in Thailand! Yet they were found here, I have a suspicion about the real age of these big statues and the race of people who made these. I think it had something to do with the older race who were in communication with Aliens in the old days! In the age of the giants!

Aha! You are familiar to that sort of knowledge. There are so many documentaries on the subject. But, sadly my country people don’t access relevant knowledge due to complacency.
