The Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, พระนอนที่วัดโพธิ์: Yellow photography contest.

Last November there was the 230th year Anniversary Celebration at Wat Pho in Bangkok. The temple or Wat Pho opened all their halls to the public till late at night. The main attraction for most people was the big Assembly Hall with the Reclining Buddha.

Wat Pho is the shorter or informal name for Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimonmangkhlararam! The Reclining Buddha was constructed during the major renovation of the Temple during the Reign of King Rama lll, with the construction of Phra Vihara or Assembly Hall to house the Buddha in 1932. The location of Wat Pho is opposite the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and Grand Palace.

The Reclining Buddha is about fifteen meters tall and forty-six meter long. The Buddha’s feet are five meters long with mother-of-pearl mosaic designs of all the suspicious qualities of the Buddha. There are altogether 108 suspicious symbolic designs on the Buddha’s feet.

During the festival, there were also traditional Thai dance and music to entertain visitors. Many stalls selling Thai sweets and hand made crafts could be found dotted in the temple courtyard. The light show with different colours’ spot lights beaming onto the pagodas at night made the whole place magical.

ในเดือนพฤศจิกายนปีที่แล้ว ที่วัดโพธิ์ได้มีการฉลองครบรอบ 230ปี โดยที่ทางวัดได้เปิดพระวิหารและโบสถ์ ให้ประชาชนเข้าชม และกราบไหว้พระพุทธรูปจนถึงเวลาค่ำ นอกจากนี้ก็มีการแสดงรำไทย โขนและดนตรีไทยเดิมให้ชมด้วย ภายในบริเวณวัดมีการเปิดร้านขายขนมไทยโบราณ และงานศิลปงานหัตถกรรมให้ประชาขนได้เลือกซื้อเป็นของที่ระลึก สิ่งที่ดึงดูดความสนใจของคนเข้าชมมากที่สุด คือพระนอนในพระวิหารนั่นเอง

วัดโพธิ์นั้นได้รับการบูรณะปฏิสังขรณ์ครั้งใหญ่ ในสมัยรัชกาลที่สาม และได้มีการสร้างพระนอนขึ้นในปี 2375 โดย พระวิหารถูกสร้างขึ้นครอบพระนอนนั่นเอง พระนอนมีความสูง 15 เมตร และมีความยาว 46 เมตร ส่วนเท้าของพระนอนมีความยาว 5 เมตร และมีการเขียนลายประดับมุก เป็นพุทธลักษณะที่สำคัญของพระพุทธเจ้าทั้งหมด 108 คุณลักษณะบนฝ่าเท้า ดังนั้นเราจะพบเลข 108 บ่อยครั้ง ว่าเป็นเลขมงคล การได้ไปเดินชมวัดโพธิ์ในเวลากลางคืน ก็ได้บรรยากาศเย็นสบาย เหมือนได้พักผ่อนเปลี่ยนมุมมองของวัดโบราณ เขามีการฉายไฟสีต่างๆไปที่ เจดีย์ภายในวัดทำให้เราได้เห็นสีของกระเบื้องเคลือบสะท้อนแสง เป็นภาพที่สวยงามมาก เพราะมีฉากหลังเป็นท้องฟ้าสีนํ้าเงินเข้ม เราคงต้องคอยว่าจะมีงานฉลองประจำปีอีกหรือเปล่า เราจะได้ไปเที่ยวงานวัดโพธิ์อีกในอนาคต
