The Peculiar Child - Fiction

in #esteem6 years ago

Andrew stood frozen seeing Nicole walking around in circles. The rain pattered down on the ground popping mud onto his boots.

He blamed himself. Only he could have seen this. He should have seen how it would have all played out. He was the father and it was his responsibility to have spent more time with Nicole.

Maybe that would have changed everything.

The rain brought back fond memories of Nicole's first day in this world. He was standing looking out through the window, when the nurse called out to him.

"Would you like to come see her?", said the nurse smiling.

"Yes, of course." He mumbled. "And how is the baby?"

"I am talking about the baby. You have a beautiful baby girl to take home with you now."

He still remembered how the nurse had looked like an angel to him at that instant.

He walked, rather floated towards the operation theater. The Doctors had called out Kate's pregnancy to be rather complicated and they insisted on performing a C-section as they were not very confident that a normal birth would have been possible after the final scanning test results.

He hesitated for a moment near the door as the nurse pushed it open for him to enter. He had always hated hospitals and the thought of seeing the operation theater room filled with blood made him hesitate.

That did not last long, when he heard the cry of a baby from inside.

While he had always read this in novels and seen people speak this way in the movies, he now felt what it meant when they all had said "heart melted."

He pushed the door open and walked in. In the far end was Kate on an operating table. It was not as bloody as he had imagined. She had those green covers wrapping her up with an opening around the stomach area. Doctors seemed to cleaning up after the C-section and it was nothing like in the dreams he had.

He turned to see nurses cleaning up the baby. The nurses covered his view and he could not see HER yet.

He stepped forward.

The nurse holding the baby turned around.

And he was in love all over again.

Nestled in her arms, was the sweetest little human being ever.

Nice one, the C-section is something which has become common now, but it's always nice to have a newborn. Nice to see the happy ending with he was in love all over again
