Historical Park Near Varna Bulgaria

in #esteem5 years ago (edited)

The biggest historical park will open its doors on 22nd of June this year near my hometown. The ambitious project however will be finished by 2022. There are several stages in the construction.

  1. Proto-history and zone for relaxation.
  2. First Bulgarian Kingdom
  3. Second Bulgarian Kingdom
  4. Rome
  5. Horse base and inn

The park will present the life in ancient times and will cover an area of 50 ha.
The visitors will have the opportunity to see the authentic lifestyle, learn more about the culture and heritage of Tracians, Proto Bulgarians, Slavs and Romans. The theme park will follow chronologically the history of our land starting from the New Stone age or Neolithic and Bronze age or Chalcolithic.

These ages will be represented in the park with ancient village dwellings. The most significant find from that time is Varna necropolis with the oldest processed cold. Replica of that gold treasure shall be displayed.

After the dwellings from the ancient era one will move forward in time in the Tracian zone.

Tracian tribes left to future generations huge heritage. Archeologists found numerous gold and silver treasures made so exquisite that continue to amaze us. Tracians believed in after life. They buried in tombs the nobles with all their possessions. Inside walls of the tombs were covered with paintings, mostly scenes of the life of the dead one.

Roman empire were ever expanding and naturely conquered the Tracians.
And here the visitors of the park will continue their journey in the Roman zone.

I guess you would agree that Rome has influenced Europe and being one of the greatest civilization left traces that withstood the changes of time. Architecture, engineering, art flourished.

The next zone will lead the tourists into the settlement of the Old Bulgarians, or who were also called Proto-Bulgarians.

Our ancestors lived in Pontic-Caspian steppe and the Volga region. They were nomadic people, their army was horse based. Horses played significant role in their lifestyle. When the old ruler khan Kubrat died his sons divided the tribes and each one took different path.
Asparuh lead his tribes towards the Danube delta and formed allience with the Slav tribes already living there and established a new country Bulgaria, acknowledged by the Byzantine Empire.

Slavs, who were they?
Slav tribes were spreading in Eastern and Central Europe. They were farmers, mostly croppers. They were living in small separate villages. For many centuries they could not develop centralized government and the frequent attacks from enemies forced them to migrate.

The new formed country initially followed the leading role of Bulgarians. It was known as the First Bulgarian Kingdom.

Christianity was accepted in 9th century AD. The Cyrilic alphabet was created and the literature reached its peak. However the constant battles with Byzantion led to the fall of the First Bulgarian Kingdom and Byzation ruled for over a century.

After the successful rebellion led by the brothers Asen and Peter, Second Bulgarian Kingdom was established.

Political and cultural developemed marked the following centuries. Castles, monastaries and churches were built. However in 14th century the inner turmolis and fights for power weakend the country, causing its separation and easy prey to the Ottoman Turks invasion.

This short overview of the history is just giving an idea what we could expect once setting foot in the park. Of course until it is completed with all the stages, one can see small part of it this year and then to expect more to come during next three years.

All these periods can be seen in the historical park together with many more activities, including - restoration of historical events, horse riding, archery, craftshops. Restaurants serving dishes on original recipes from the old times. Children's corner, cinema, cafes, souvenir shops.

This year I would be happy to visit the park when opened and to share my personal impressions.
