A Malachite Sunbird sitting on a Protea flower.

We took a walk in one of the open gardens yesterday morning and encountered some beautiful scenes.
Let's have a look!

The Protea is an indigenous African flower.

Finally here's the beauty of a Protea!

"The king protea, so called because of its resemblance to a crown, is the largest of all proteas and is found in the Cape Floristic region. The flower appears on South African birth certificates and passports, as well as on the South African 5-Rand coin, and the Proteas, South Africa’s cricket team, also took its name from the genus."
"Proteas date back millions of years
Dating back approximately 300 million years, proteas are considered to be among the oldest families of flowering plants on the planet."

The above protea flower descriptions were taken from: https://theculturetrip.com/africa/south-africa/articles/

So colorful flowers and birds. I am getting jealous. No such birds around here. Hope you are doing well after your stroke, my friend.

Thank you for the kind words Sir Norbert and I am a bit better today.
The birds are always so great to see.
Blessings!

Colour is so striking! Beautiful... Almost missed the sunbird, our sunbird here is more on Yellow and Black colour.

Thank you and these are the metallic colored sunbirds.
We also have blacks, reds, blues and yellows over here that I have posted before.
They say that before the continents were broken up, it was all one piece and Gondwana (Africa) was the birthplace of nature.
Amazing isn't it?
Blessings!

WOAW!!
I cant get over The amazing colors in your pictures 😍 That first picture with that sunbird is breathtaking... Almost unreal with its bright Green color.

The flowers are also incredleble and The Protea is beautiful.
We dont have flowers like that here so I really enjoy learning about The flowers you have. The bright colors are just stunning.

Thank you and so glad that you liked the post my friend.
The sun enhances the metallic green colors of the Malachite and at times in a different posture the colors turn to a dark, almost purple blue.

The Proteas are ancient flowers and another great quality about them is that they can also protect themselves during veld fires,
Beautiful flowers indeed.
Blessings!

What beautiful photos! That Protea is simply lovely and the birds, my goodness! Certainly a stately flower to have :) Blessings on your weekend @papilloncharity

Thank you for the kind words and glad that you liked the post my friend.
May your weekend also be blessed.

Protea are my favourite, the little sunbird visitor is a metallic green both equally as beautiful as the other, have a wonderful day and thanks for sharing mother nature in all her glory with us once again.

Thank you Lady Joan.
I am of course also a big fan of the sunbirds, so much so that I ca recognize their call even amidst all of the their bird noises.
That's when I disappear with the camera and by the time that I get back, the tea is cold Lol.
May you guys have a great weekend.

Comrades run weekend, town will be full to the scuppers again. Calls of birds is something you tune into, when I hear one that I do not recognize I run out with the camera to seek it out.

With winter arriving have started the old tea pot brewing again, has been fun trying out some new tastes like cinnamon tea which is delightfully pink and an awesome flavour, enjoy your cuppa and the weekend Stephen.

Wow..where is this? It attract so many special birds..and they are so pretty.
