The average person like me does not understand all the nuances of the blockchain let alone how all the players fit in.
As a result there will be no post today. None. The Drama just keeps comming.
So, Steemit Inc is starting a power down of 34 million Steem and people are panicking.

I'm going to claim being an average person on Steemit, like you, @wolfhart, and as such, I mean I'm totally out of the information loop when it comes to what Steemit Inc does or doesn't do and why they do or don't—but I think we can say that Steemit Inc feeling compelled to power down over 34 million SP that has been essentially sitting there for reward pool use is not a good thing.
The reasons for it might better or worsen that statement, and what comes next certainly will—does it go somewhere else, do they bring it back, and in the meantime, how does having it sitting on exchanges make it any safer?
In order for Steemit Inc's accounts to be taken over this way, there would need to be a hard fork. That means it would have to show up for consensus on the blockchain, and that 17 out of 21 top witnesses would have to say, "Yep, sounds good to me."
Aside from the fact it's Steemit Inc., the single largest driving force behind STEEM and its progress too date, taking over an account, any account, by witness consensus would doom STEEM forever.
So, while the drama is there, and the speculation is flying, muddying the waters, picking out the important bits from this is not rocket science. There is no good that could come out of such a move (forcibly taking any accounts via hard fork, let alone Steemit Inc's), and maybe slightly better 'no good' that comes from Steemit Inc's counter measures.
I cannot speculate on what is going on. I am of the opinion that if steemit sold all 34 million good for us. It might hurt short time but at least one problem would be out of the picture.

Yeah. Plenty of kneejerk reactions from all sides, unfortunately. One seems to lead to the other, and where it stops, nobody knows.
The thing is, there are times where abandoning ship is warranted, and seeing the signs for what they are is the best course of action. The rest of the time, going in the opposite direction that the herd is going is the best thing.
So, it's knowing which is which. When does Chicken Little actually get it right? How do you know to trust Chicken Little in that moment? Or, is it more that you work independent of Chicken Little, see and recognize what an actual sign is, and go from there.
Making that distinction honestly troubles me a little. What troubles me more is, I seem to have little problem with what Steemit Inc or others do powering down, than I do with others panicking over it. Panicking doesn't lead to anywhere good, unless it fuel the adrenaline you need because you're running full tilt from a tidal wave. :)

It makes sense from the linked post from @krnel. There is a good reason... whether or not that is the real reason is in the future, but it is reasonable.
