I'm just back from Maryland, and happy to find my contributor copy of this stylish and mighty little volume of activist writing awaiting me in Florida. I feel proud to be part of this important new book of essays from McSweeney's, Small Blows Against Encroaching Totalitarianism, which began life as a petition to impeach Donald Trump.
Collected in this slender anthology of artivism (art + activism) are 22 pieces from impassioned cultural figures in an effort to empower the overwhelmed—since the appalling 2016 election and the maddening, disheartening news, daily. Distinguished poets, novelists, actors and activists, such as Lev Grossman, Rick Moody, Matthew Zapruder, and Terrance Hayes address this critical moment in our history and the necessity of taking action to bear witness and protest, especially, during midterm US elections this November.
