A New Discovery in Florida
Despite living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 12 years, on and off, there’s still much of the great outdoors for me to discover — hermit that I am. So, after being, alone, in my apartment for around a week (trying to have some quiet time & ending up with a case of cabin fever) a good neighbor/friend suggested an outing to share with me a discovery of hers.
Packing a cooler with a bottle of champagne (because you have to celebrate, right?) cheese & crackers, we set off to a nearby spot on the beach to catch the sunset from on top of a stack of giant rocks.
On the way over there, we discussed the possibility of spending an hour or two in silent meditation, as we contemplated the natural beauty & our lives.
But, incorrigible chatterboxes that we both are, this never happened (there was too much to say & see :)
Our only company ‘on the rocks’ was an actually silent gentleman, fishing. Around sunset, he packed up his kit and left our noisy, tipsy party of two...
Before long, 2 young gentlemen approached us. One came so close and was staring with such candid curiosity, I asked them to join our party & offered a drink.
Turns out both their third eyes were wide open — one was an Israeli Reiki teacher, another an aspiring writer. Our conversation scaled the dizzy heights & kept returning to God-consciousness and the miracle of being.
So, we ended up honoring the sunset with conversation versus silence. Climbing down the rocks, we went for a short swim in the dark. After more lively conversation and listening to some music, while star-gazing, we exchanged contact information with our new friends and them merrily staggered home.
Sounds like so much fun and rich in heart and beauty!
It was fun! Rich in heart and beauty is a lovely way to describe it & something to aspire to, daily.

Sounds like a very peaceful, yet fun (talking with strangers to new friends, I love it), time on the beach and rocks. A great way to get out and shake off the cabin fever. I spent much time in Western Florida, in my youth. Family trips. And have many fond memories of the beach and warm (HOT) days searching the sand for sharks' teeth and such. Thanks for taking me back there. Balmy night breezes and champagne sound divine. Cheers.
Hey, glad I could take you back there :) Thanks, for your kind comment. I’ve never searched for shark’s teeth on the beach, before—but I did see a baby turtle about to leave the nest before climbing the rocks! Cheers 🥂
That is way cool. I used to help the 'turtle people' on the beach when I was there. That is so fun to see. The little doobers have a hard time of it, heading to the 7-eleven and such, rather than the moon. But they sure are perserverant. You live in a fun part of the world. And sounds like you like to explore.
I don't think there are many sharks teeth on your side, more on the western shores. Maybe the sharks used to like warmer water of the Gulf. Then again, that was millions of years ago. So maybe I am all wet in my assessment. Unlike the sharks...
