Story: Matthew and the Dragons (Part XXXIV)
Part XXXIV
Arriving at the workshop, the king and his entourage went down their horses. They are then led by Matthew's mother towards Matthew's personal workshop, where the young man is tinking with a strange looking tool.
Seeing that Matthew didn't even noticed that someone entered his workshop, Matthew's mother is displeased and gave the young man a bump in the back of his head. With an "ouch", Matthew stopped what he is doing and finally notices the king.
Noticing his lack of manner, Matthew quickly apologizes to the king, in which the king simply laugh it off. He then urges Matthew to show him the weapon described in his letter. Hearing this, Matthew's face become more serious and took something from the safe. He then led the king to a shooting range where his customized bows and crossbows are being tested.
Meanwhile, hearing that the king personally visits Matthew, Aria, Amy, and Boris went to the said shooting range where they are stopped by the royal guards. But the captain of the royal guards knowing their identities, allowed them to enter.
Inside the range, they saw Matthew talking to the king, but could only watch the side. While standing there knowing not what to do, they heard a lovely and familiar voice calling them. The trio saw Maria gesturing them to go to her. Walking towards her, they noticed a person wearing a black cloak beides her.
Judging from the built of the person's body, they deduced that the said person is male. Maria seeing their questioning look introuduced the man as his father—the current king of assassins.
The trio breath in some cold air after hearing the introduction. "The king of assassins, the strongest assassin in the continent!" They thought in shock.
The king of assassin merely nods at the three, indicating that he recognized their presence. Knowing that his father is not the talkative type, Maria ignores him and chat with Aria and Amy in a hushed voice.
Seeing her usually taciturn daughter being talkative, the king of assassin is quite surprise. Fortunately, he is wearing a hooded cloak that hides his face or people could see his shock face. Though he usually doesn't care about such a thing, he do have a reputation to maintain.
Back to the king and Matthew, after explaining the inner workings of the new weapon, Matthew finally opened the iron box and took out a strange looking tool.
"This weapon is called the "fire bringer"," he said. "Just like bows and crossbows, it too uses projectiles." Matthew then handed the "fire bringer" to the king so that he could examine the weapon thouroughly.
The king looked at the "fire bringer" with interest but cannot figure out how it could defeat the great dragons. He then looked at Matthew, seeking explanation.
Knowing that his earlier explanation was too complicated, Matthew took back the "fire bringer" from the king and then took out a small ball made out of iron from the box. He also took out a small bag made out of cloth and pour it inside the fire bringer.
The king saw some black powder being poured but was still confused. Nonetheless, he did not bother Matthew and waited.
Not long after Matthew completed his preparation. Actually, preparing the new weapon is very easy but for the sake of the king and the other people watching, he purposedly slow down. After that he walked towards a target and pointed the "fire bringer" towards it.
Everyone watches with great interest. Matthew then pull the trigger and... "Bang!" The target shatters to thousands of pieces after being hit by something but no one inside the room manages to see what hit it—not even the king of assassin!
