2 - 3 Days Out Recap Of Constantinople Hard Fork For Ethereum

We are about 2 or 3 days away for the hard fork to update Ethereums blockchain called Constantinople.

Just to make a few things clear to avoid any confusion on what this update is.

  • Ethereum (ETH) holders do not need to do anything to prepare for the hard fork
(This hard for is uncontested which means the other chain will just die off and not be supported there is no 1:1 split etc)
  • If you run a node you are required to upgrade to the latest version of Ethereums client software after Constantinople upgrade goes live. (This should be roughly the 15th of Jan at late at night or early Jan 16th 2019)

What is a hard fork ?

A hard fork is when a blockchain undergoes changes in which they are incompatible with the old chain. This of it as the new chain having more power and functions that the old chain can't make sense of. This is why the entire systems and nodes etc have to be updated to the newest version to support this.

What Is Being Added ?

5 Improvement Proposals will be added into the chain they are

EIP 145 - Cost -effective and better efficiency to processing information

EIP 1014 - better alternatives to help with network scaling solutions that are off-chain transactions

EIP 1052 - Improvement to process in contacts

EIP 1234 - A 12 month delay on difficulty bomb this is where 3 ETH per block will be reduce to 2 ETH per block

EIP 1283 - better way for data storage

While none of these sound that exciting I know lol its actually is a clear goal and progression we have been waiting for from ETH in which the system is becoming more efficient and able to handle many dApps which should lead to further adoption.
